Transmog Q & A - Getting into the Transmog Market

Over on the subreddit WoWEconomy there was a post where the poster was asking all sorts of questions about the transmog market. I thought there were a lot of great questions that people could benefit from, so I asked the poster if I could address them in my blog and he happily obliged. So here's a little Q & A snippet I think those of you who are considering the transmog market will find interesting!

Q: About a week or two ago I found the Undermine Journal, which led me to the idea that money could be made on my server by buying low and selling a little higher. Is the undermine journal a reputable system to find great deals on your auction house?

A: Yes and no, but mostly yes. A lot of times TUJ can be a great indicator of what an item will go for, but always take it with a grain of salt. With TSM you can import either Wowuction or TUJ data in game, to get a feel for what the region pricing looks like for an item. In the transmog market this is key. Is it selling for a markup on other servers as well? That's a good deal. Definitely use the TSM App to it's highest potential to get accurate data as well.

There's actually an official TUJ addon that works well with TSM and can be used as a pricing source (/tsm sources). I would suggest this since you seem to prefer TUJ, and that can be found here, and is updated weekly through the Curse Client for accurate cross realm gold data for items!

Q: What advice do you have about what items to watch? I've read through many blogs and they've stated plate and mail are the best sellers- does this mean I should stay away from cloth if I'm attempting to make a valid in game income in this market?

Gear Flipping Advice (Transmog & Leveling)

One of the things I constantly see, especially after posting my transmog lists, is people saying "it just doesn't work" on their server, or that they bought 80+ items, and not one sold in their last posting, and they are about to give up.  The following is some advice/theories to pay attention to, to make sure your gear flipping is successful.

Law of Large Numbers
As a math major in college, this one is easy for me to see, but not necessarily easy for everyone else.  The Law of Large Numbers loosely says that the more times you repeat an experiment, the more likely you are to get to the actual average.  Let's look at an example.  Say on a specific server, about 5% of active level 90s are involved in hardcore raiding.  If you pick 5 level 90s at random, odds are none of them are hardcore raiders, say our average is 0%.  Now lets say we interviewed 20 total, 2 turned out to be raiders, 10%.  Later we have interviewed 100 players total, now having 6%, eventually if we interviewed the entire population of 90s on the server, we'd get that 5%, with each interview, getting relatively closer to the population average.

That's great Phat, but how does this apply to gear flipping?  Simple.  Say on any given day 1.5% of all transmog gear sells.  If you have only 47 pieces, odds are you're not going to sell one on any given day.  Now if you keep reposting you may, but one of the largest parts of selling transmog or leveling gear on a regular basis is increasing your stock.  It's simple, the more of the field you control, when someone actually decides to make a purchase in that market, the more likely it will be from your stock of goods rather than your competitors.  I have over 900 pieces of transmog and leveling gear in my inventory, and there are times I don't sell a thing, and other times when I log on to 20k+ in my mailbox (coincidentally, I just pulled in 24.5k  worth of transmog/leveing gear sales while writing this post, an all time high for me!).  It's a very variable market, and the only way to hedge against this is by increasing your stock.

General Strategy
The following is my general strategy, I go AFK a lot during transmog/leveling gear reposting, and do other things to not waste my time.  I'm sure it's not perfect but it works for me (use windowed fullscreen mode if you want to tab out).  This will work for reposting in general as well.

  1. Collect mail (to repost) while afk (TSM_Mailing), until character starts yelling at me.
  2. Walk to auctioneer, click TSM Post button, AFK
  3. Wait for readycheck sound telling me I'm ready to post ( /tsm -> Auctioning Groups/Options -> Options -> Enable Sounds)
  4. Tab into WoW and use scroll-wheel to post (set this up under /tsm -> Auctioning Groups/Options -> Options -> Macro Help)
  5. Once I'm done scrolling, start running back to mailbox, click mailbox, click Open All button, then AFK (Auctions will still post while you're in the mailbox window, and mail will start opening once all auctions have been posted)
  6. Repeat until done.
Hopefully nothing new there, but if you're new to the flipping game, hopefully it has shed some insight on the best way flip gear, while not staring at your character standing in one spot for minutes on end.  Also, if you're not using TSM to flip gear, you're wasting so much time, and are putting yourself at a disadvantage.  Learn it.

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review 1/3/2013

So my Weekly Review is falling a bit late this week because of the holidays, but I really want to make it a weekly event, so I'm going to go for it anyway.

Jewelcrafting

This week was particularly good in Jewelcrafting for me, I have made a ton of cut gem sales, but the bulk of my profit came from the sale of 3 of the 450 ilvl JC necks/rings.  It was actually all 3 opportune sales where someone decided they needed the gear at that time, and bought at above market prices (lots of fluctuation on my small server).  They sold at ridiculous profit margins, something to the tune of 10-15x mats, which is always a bonus.  If you haven't already I highly suggest visiting Mai the Jade Shaper and getting the JC patterns from her.  They add so much value and diversity to your Jewelcrafting arsenal, and give you something to do with all those Serpent's Eye you've been getting from prospecting.

Inscription
I was reminded by a guildie that the Darkmoon Faire was coming soon (Sunday, get on it!), and that I regrettably had to work through some milling that I had been putting off for quite some time.  I've actually been buying up cards this week, and most likely will keep buying up cheap ones until the Faire starts.  On some servers (and for some specific cards) prices are better for selling individually, but right now I could buy the parts of a Tiger Deck for about 8k less than the selling price of it's Relic.  So stocking up on the cheap cards, may end up with a few too many of a certain card, but I'm thinking I'll more than make up for it selling the relics sometime in January.

Transmog

This week I made about 4k in transmog sales, which isn't too bad considering I only posted once (with 48 hr auctions I am able be posting about 3.5 times/week).  It was honestly a bit less than I was expecting with a lot of students off this week and playing WoW, but honestly I didn't post during high volume times (weekend), so it's a pretty decent haul.

Blog Survey
If you haven't taken it yet, I have a survey I'm using to improve and decide what new features to add to my blog.  It will only take about 5 minutes at most, and I will be using all input to decide where I go with my blog in 2013.  Whether you're a new reader, or someone who has been reading over a year, I'd love to hear what you have to say!   You can access the survey at this link.  To those of you who already have, or are about to, thank you so much for your time taking the survey, I really appreciate all the constructive feedback I've received so far!

Cheers,

How to be a Great Transmog Salesman Part 2

This is a follow up to my previous 2 posts, How to be a Great Transmog Salesman Part 1, and it's recent Addendum, a shorter way to do it.  Now that we've gone through the various ways of purchasing these items, I'm going to go through some methods that I use to sell the items.

Handy Dandy Transmog Seller
I highly suggest for anyone who is going to get serious about transmog to make a level 1 bank mule solely for transmog.  This way your bags are free of any other potential clutter.  My character also has a guild bank for himself to store anything I have more than 3 of.  He has all 26 slot bags (28 aren't worth it yet).  With the backpack that's 120 slots.  150 would of course be preferable because mail comes in 50's, but not an option  right now.

I also find that attempting to be as anonymous as possible is the way to go with this as well.  If guildies find out you're the guy selling all the xmog gear they want, they're going to want you to cut them a deal.  All the time.  Trust me I've been down that road, and minus RealID (which you still can't appear invisible on), don't advertise yourself as being that lvl 1 transmog guy.

The 48-Hour Auction
For Transmog gear, I always set my TSM groups to be on 48 hours.  This way you only have to repost unsold items every 2 days.  You may get undercut, but with the amount of items you have on the AH, you won't particularly care.  I tend to scan at least once per day to find any good deals, but more than that on occasion.  If you're using the TSM Application, it has the option to notify you of Deals if you're using one of the dealfinding lists.  I don't want to go in length on that topic right now, but may in a future post.

My Tiers
Yesterday, in Part 1, I noted that I set up 4 tiers for my transmog sales, I'm going to simplify them by refering  to them as follows:

Low Level: 499g Threshold/749g Fallback
Mid Level: 749g Threshold/1249g Fallback
High Level: 4499g Threshold/4999g Fallback
Extremely Rare: 17999g Fallback

Now you could honestly buy everything below 50g, and put it all in the Low Level Group and make gold, but putting better looking pieces in pricier groups helps make you more profit!  I'd say a majority of my pieces actually do fall into the Low Level group, but there are a few sets (more than this but I'm going to give you some highlights) that I throw into the higher groups, as follows.  Mouse over the set name to look at the set!

Mid Level
My mid level items consist of gear from the following sets (among others):
Blood KnightBloodfistBloodscaleCaptain'sDarkcrest, and Imbued Plate
Note that some of these Chest and Pants I will bump up to the 5k, as they really are the core pieces for the set.

High Level
Arachnidian RobesHibernal RobeVenomshroud Silk Robes, Buccaneer's SetHyperion Set (Chest/Legs in Extremely Rare), Silver-Thread Robe, Soulkeeper, Speedsteel Rapier, and my favorite Anvilmar Hammer

Extremely Rare
Exalted Plate, Robes of Insight, Jade Plate

Of course different people have different lists, but these are roughly how I group mine together.  Get a feel for your own server.  My server is Low Pop so I usually have a monopoly on any of the High Level or higher sets, so I can price them how I want.  In a higher pop setting you may want to reduce your prices to remain profitable.  Try out different things, and see what works for you.

Barking
Rarely I will talk about my transmog gear on my main.  Just to get some free advertising.  Say something like (and link the item) "Anvilmar Hammer for 5,000g!?  What a rip off!".  Now you may be thinking Phat, why slander your beautiful self in such a way?  I'll tell you why.  This one is on the principle "any publicity is good publicity".  I can't tell you how many sales I've made off of posting unique items to trade in this way.  A lot of players don't know they exist, even if it doesn't sell that day, you've planted a seed!

That's all for now, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below!

Cheers,

Addendum to How to be a Great Transmog Salesman Part 1

If you read my post yesterday and liked it, a reader, lasagna left a note in the comments, and pointed out that there's an even FASTER way to do this search, which takes little (or almost no) time.  It involves using a dealfinding search with up to date scan data so that it only scans items that are actually on the AH, below a defined price, and takes just seconds to do!

TSM App
Since you need recent scan data, there are two ways to go about it.  The fist is using the Tradeskillmaster App, which will download your data about once per hour (it's an external application to WoW), and you can get that data into WoW with a /reload.  What the dealfinding list is going to do, using this strategy, that a normal shopping list won't, is it will only check for things that were cheaper than your threshold at the last full scan.  Using this TSM App, downloadable straight from the TSM website at this link, you will be able to constantly update your data without ever doing a scan in game!  You will have to do a /reload to retrieve the most recent data if it has scanned since you've been logged in, it's a very useful application to have.

While visiting TSM's website, be sure to check out their Child's Play Charity Fundraiser.  They're currently raising money for the Child's Play charity, and are matching every donation made!

Alternatively, if you don't want to download the application, you can just click Run Scan (under AuctionDB with the AH window open), and then "Run GetAll Scan".  This will also provide you with the data you need to do a quick dealfinding search.

Two Different Lists
If you want to skip my ramblings and just download the precious lists, click the "TSM Transmog Lists" button above.

Now there are two different ways to do this, and I'm just going to go into what each scan brings to the table, and why I personally prefer one to the other (although both are extremely useful in their own way).  The way we're going to use these lists, they're going to take our recent scan data, and then use our list to only search for items that were below our threshold price at the last scan.  Basically it will scan only the items that are on the AH, below your defined price, which is very nice.

List 1: 745g
The list I prefer is one where the limits are set just below my 750 minimum posting price, at 745.  This scan is preferable to me because I will not be scanning any of my 800+ auctions, saving a lot of scan time for me.  The con of this list is that some items you'd be willing to pay more for, you won't see.  The best deals for flipping on the other hand will mostly be below 745 gold, so to me, it's preferable.

List 2: 999,999g99s99c
Now if you either don't have a large inventory, or just want to see EVERYTHING, that is another viable option, my second list has a limit of 999,999g99s99c, which will of course show you every item.  This list will scan every item that was seen in your AH at the last scan.  This will still scan less items than a shopping list, but will find your own items.

List 3: Custom
If you want to easily change your limits to whatever you see fit (especially if you have different limits than I do), see my quick write up above the lists.

All of the lists can be found at this link, or by clicking the "TSM Transmog List" button above.

Importing Your Chosen List
Last but not least I will go over how to import a dealfinding list for those of you who do not know how to.  First type /tsm, and click Shopping Options at the top.

After doing this, click Dealfinding Lists then Import Dealfinding list.

Now enter a name, hit Okay, Then paste the list data you chose into the box, Hit accept, then Import List

And there you go, your list is imported!!

Using the List Properly
Now to use the list properly for fast search times, do a GetAll scan or refresh your data if need be (detailed above).  Then, in the TSM Auction House window, click Search -> Special Searches -> Dealfinding Search.  And there you have it!  A Simplified Search!

Thanks once again to lasagna for this awesome idea, for some reason it never occured to me, but doing it is so simple and worth it!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

How to Be a Great Transmog Salesman Part 1

**In the comments in this post, lasagna pointed out that there's a faster method to doing this search. I outlined this method here.  You can still use this shopping list, but the other method utilizes dealfinding lists for quicker searches.**

This is intended as a simple guide to purchase transmog gear in the most efficient way possible.  If you're not familiar with Transmog or TSM, learn how to use the addon package TradeSkillMaster before reading this guide, it's necessary, trust me.  Check out Faid's Instructional TradeSkillMaster videos here.

1. Addons
To be a great xmog seller you really only need 2 addons (although TSM is a package of addons):
Tradeskillmaster: I use this to buy, post, and empty my mail (as well as keep track of sales).  In particular you'll only need the Auctioning, Mailing, and Shopping packages, but all are recommended.

Mogit: Great addon that adds hover over previews to armor items.  You'll have to check off "Load out of date addons" on your login screen for this one to work in it's current version.  It works flawlessly though, which is probably (hopefully) why they haven't updated it for 5.1.

2. My Strategy
Shopping:
A lot of gold makers use separate lists, say Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate, Weapons, and Shields.  While doing this has it's pros, you're wasting a whole bunch of your own time sitting and searching for 100 items.  I often found myself AFKing or browsing the web while doing these searches, and coming back to searches that were completed 10 minutes earlier because I got distracted.  Then it hit me.  If I'm going to do 6 huge xmog searches, why not do them all at once?  Search for 500-600 items, browse the internet, go AFK, or read my Favorite Gold Blog, and then come back later and go through the results.  I've tried it out for over a week now, and I really like my results with this method.  Generally I'll buy anything under 50g on this list, and the rest I judge by the appearance whether it's worth buying to flip.  My list is based on a compilation of these lists from Faid at GoClockorkRiot, Shannon, and myself.  Shannon's list I trimmed down a bit for my own tastes, it originally had over 200 weapons, it now has only 151.

Selling:
For those of you who are new to transmog, I'm going to go over my shopping strategies.  Those of you with preset Groups for selling set up already feel free to move to the next section.  For selling I break my items down into 4 tiers.  Some people like less, some people like more, I like four.  My different groups are set up for 48 hour posting, and priced as follows:

(Threshold/Fallback)
499/749g - Common Transmog
750/1250g - Better looking/rarer Transmog
4499/4999g - Really Cool looking/unique Transmog
17,999/18,000g - Ridiculously Rare Transmog (think Jade, Exalted, etc)

As you start working with transmog gear you may decide you want different prices or more tiers based on your server's needs.  This is what works for me, and I've had success with it.  The first 2 groups above were originally 500 and 1k in Cata, and I bumped them up when MoP was launched because inflation.  Use your best guess.  Transmog doesn't sell constantly, so don't change your price levels around too much at first.  You have to set a standard for your server, and possibly work against any competition.  Use your best guess when first making sets.  Base it off of the look, and what you think you can get out of your potential buyer for it (use Mogit to mouse over and see what it looks like).

3. The List
Below is the list, Import it by typing /tsm, going to the Shopping Options tab, clicking Shopping Lists, then Import Shopping list.  Name it and copy/paste the following data into the "List Data" field.  Hit the Accept Button, then Import List.  I had some trouble importing this list, most likely because it's so huge.  The name didn't go through at first and it took a while to load after importing, but these are minor problems that should not effect the list.

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review: MoP Style 10/19

So I haven't done a weekly review in quite some time, but I think it would be helpful to give you an insight into what I'm doing right now in game for gold making purposes.

Dailies
Even though I care about other factions, I always make sure I do my Tillers dailies.  They are the only faction (other than the crafting recipe ones) that directly relate to gold making.  Ironpaw Tokens are even extraordinarily useful in this time of the game, and will be in the months coming.  Cooking is turning out to be quite a lucrative profession for me, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.  Visiting my farm is one of the first things I do every day, as well as the Silk Fields just south of the farm for my Tailoring CD.  Very convenient.  My tailoring CD has to be one of my most favorite CDs of this expansion.  It takes raw mats and increases their value by at least tenfold.

Black Market Auction House
As a mage with ports to both Org and Vale I decided to set my main's hearth to the BMAH.  So far I've bought two heroic crafting patterns for their minimum 20k, and have flipped one for 30k.  I check this daily for great deals, and have already blown 80k on a mount.  Even though 80k was over my 50k threshold, I got a little caught up in a bidding war, which I shouldn't have.  I noticed the player bidding against me was running back and forth to the mailbox going up in 1k increments and decided to do 10k.  It got a bit out of hand.  Backfired you could say.  Oh well.

Transmogrification
I don't know how everyone else is doing with transmog gear, but so far it's been a great seller for me on my low pop server since MoP release.  I'd imagine larger servers are seeing too big of an influx of greens to be able to control the market, but I'm getting just enough greens in to hold my market down, and even though I'm not being good about reposting every 2 days, I've been making a lot using transmog strategies from last patch.

My Main's MoP Xmog
On a related note I'm really loving the new look of the gear this expansion in every single way.  I love how when you quest all the questing gear matches, and that the gear is so intricate and not as generic as Cataclysm gear was.  It hasn't slowed down my transmog sales either, which is a bonus.  I think it is a step in the right direction from Blizzard, but I'll stop this rant right now before it turns into a monster.

Living Steel
I'm kind of disappointed with the way that Living Steel has gone this expansion, as Truegold had a much better presence throughout Cataclysm, especially in regards to profit margin.  I think it's mostly because all the crafted gear is raid finder level, so raiders can replace it pretty fast, and the non hardcore raiders don't bother buying it.  I've already dropped my 2nd JC for Inscription and I'm considering dropping at least 1 of my 4 Alchemists to pick up Inscription as well.  Mostly for the cards which will lose a lot of value after this upcoming DMF, but I think the trinkets will be in high demand through November DMF so the sooner the better IMO.

While this is by no means an exhaustive list, it's certainly what I've been focusing in on as far as gold making in the new expansion.  What are your opinions on the viability of Alchemy (or any profession for that matter) going forward in WoW?  What's your new favorite profession?

Cheers,

The Duping Witch-hunt

Recently, Jim from Power Word: Gold came out with an article entitled Robes of Insight Now Being Duplicated?.  Although the number of Robes is rising, as indicated in his blog and via data from The Undermine Journal, I'd like to take a moment to take a critical look at his observations.  No hard feelings, I just strongly disagree with the views expressed.

'The Evidence'
In Jim's article, he notes that the number of Robes of Insight on EU servers have doubled since June, from 105 to 199.  He also notes on US servers the number raised 90% from 130 to 249.  Okay fair enough, this is a very reasonable observation, and it is a fact.  But does it imply duping?  No.  Here's my thought process.  Below is a TUJ graph of Bloodscale Breastplate, another popular transmog item.
Bloodscale Breastplate from TUJ, click picture to enlarge

As you can see, there is a substantial increase from May starting at ~475 and going up to 812 on September 8th.  A relatively high 70.95% increase.  Hmmm.  Let's take a look at another popular transmog chest, from the Saltstone set.
Saltstone Surcote from TUJ, click picture to enlarge

From May to September 8th, the number of these increased from 50 to 121.  For those of you who are good at mental math, you already know that's well over double what it was, an over 140% increase.

My last piece of anecdotal evidence is another great transmog cloth chest piece, Buccaneer's Vest:
Buccaneer's Vest from TUJ, click picture to enlarge

Again from May to Sept. 8th the number on the US AH went from 110 to 214.  I hope you're starting to see the picture I'm trying to paint (94.5% increase).

Conclusions I've Drawn
What I think is happening, which is also more likely than duping, is that the demand for transmog items is decreasing.  This is something most of us have observed and felt in our pockets in WoW.  In economics, when demand decreases, to stay at the same level of sales from before, prices must decrease.  Because of us though, the prices didn't decrease.  We are all stubborn transmog sellers who are set in our ways (TSM is a blessing and a curse).  For all the items listed above as well as Robes of Insight, the number has been increasing, but the price has stayed around the same number.  So what we're seeing here is more likely the result of you and I, the gold making community at large, than dupers.

Further: On the "Ban Wave" Theory
Jim also suggested that the dip in amount of items on the AH after the 28th (bot ban wave) suggests duping:

"In the US servers, in days before Patch 5.0.4 and the possible ban wave, there was a peak of 245 Robes of Insight on the servers on August 25, 2012. After the patch? In the US, Robes auctions had dropped from 245 on August 25, 2012 down to 174 on August 30, 2012 a decrease of just over 40%."
"In the EU the numbers peaked at about 190 Robes on August 25, 2012 and had dropped down to 154 on August 29th, 2012. A decrease of around 23%."
*Emphasis added by me.

Clearly looking at all the above graphs you can see that ALL of these items decreased in number after the 28th (in my 3 examples by 21%, 20%, and 27% respectively). This most likely due to huge down times for the patch, or perhaps people choosing not to play during that time due to laggy servers and server resets.  All in all this doesn't imply duping, even take a look at the least likely to be duped item:
US: Netherweave cloth July 30-Sept 10

Netherweave Cloth went from this 1,083,550 peak on August 26th, to 846,994 low on August 29th.  A 22% decrease.  Most all items on the AH felt the hit of 5.0.4 being released.  Before we go around screaming "He's a duper! He's a duper!" perhaps we should take a look at all the evidence.

What Duping Really Looks Like
The previous armor graphs all show linear growth patterns, whereas something that is actually being duped (Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger) look more like this:
Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger on TUJ, click to enlarge

Quantity available is increasing exponentially, and Prices decreasing steadily.  That's what a supply and demand curve SHOULD look like.
Also note that on this actually duped item that on August 27th there were 870 on the AH, the day of the patch, the 28th, there were still 810 on the AH (a 7% decrease), and the day after the patch there were 940 (a 16% increase) , and it hasn't dropped below that since.  Your honor, I rest my case.

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

High Pop vs. Low Pop

Hi Guys,

Today I wanted to talk about High Pop vs. Low Pop servers, specifically my experiences with them.  For those of you who don't know or don't remember from previous posts, my main server is Low Pop (until MoP when it'll probably hit medium).  Recently I participated in a gold making competition where we competed on a high pop server.  Since then I have been playing with their AH on and off for fun, and I've learned quite a bit about how size effects sales among different markets, and I just wanted to share some general observations.

Transmog
Being on my Low Pop server and having a large (~800 item) transmog inventory, I get less sales per 48 hour posting  than my character on a high pop server with ~150 item inventory.  This could be due to a few factors I suppose.  There are probably more characters with disposable income on a large server, and more characters interested in transmog as well.  One thing I'm interested in seeing the results of once MoP comes around is doubling all my xmog prices (except my highest tier which is really expensive as is :-P), and seeing how the two markets react.

Jewelcrafting/Enhancement Professions
Since my experiment is mostly for fun, I decided to use a gem strategy similar to what I use on my Low Pop server and see how it worked on a high pop server.  As I don't have a JC on the larger server, I bought up gems I would craft and resold.  As you could (probably) imagine, I actually sold less gems per 12 hour posting on the High Pop as compared to the Low.  This is due to more/faster undercutting on a higher population server, which just makes sense.  Although, when I did dungeons on the high pop, I got A LOT more sales posting in between queues.  iSold was going crazy!  For a regular player who posts from their main, a High Pop server will give you a distinct advantage for repost sales, but I can't say it makes a huge difference from a small with "set it and forget it" auctions.

Inscription
In this one I have a clear favorite.  Small servers.  If you are the type of gold maker like me, you aren't logging and reposting all the time, you either want to enjoy the game time you have, or other aspects of your life, and want to get your routine done and over with.  This is where glyphs on a small server blows large servers out of the water.  Even if you have a competitor or two, it's nothing compared to what you have to face on a large server.  You can make lots of gold not having to repost so often, and that's great for me.

Advantages of my Second Server
If you're someone like me who enjoys making gold just for the "how much can I make" aspect of it, you don't like spending gold on your main server.  If you're a hardcore gold maker you'll find it easy to get on a high pop server and start making gold relatively fast.  Although I had an extra kickstart of motivation to make my characters, I look forward to using this character to purchase high-end TCG mounts, rare pets, etc. that will be account wide in MoP.  Why spend all that gold on your main server when you can get it on another server you are not interested in?  Also even though I have the utility to make gold on that server, I don't have anywhere near as much utility as I do on my main server.  That being said when Black Market AH comes out in MoP I'm not going to be depending on my secondary server to buy things (nor would I want to, especially in the case of something like gear).  So having a large gold stockpile will be functional (maybe).  What is your favorite (or least favorite) difference between low and high pop servers?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Wand Mogging List for Mists of Pandaria!

As promised in my previous post, I've made a list of wands that would make for good transmog come MoP.  The reason I think wands will be a great thing to stockpile for Mists is because they will become a main weapon for caster's in MoP, and no one is using them for transmog right now.

Theresa's Booklight
Torch of Austen
Gwyneth's Runed Dragonwand

This list includes all unique looking BoE wands that could be sold on the AH for mogging, come MoP when wands are going to become caster's main weapons.  I also only included items that are currently able to be transmogged, ie. they have some sort of primary or secondary stat on them, assuming the mogging rules won't change come MoP.

Wand of Allistarj
Wasteland Wand

This is by no means a guide to mogging wands, but a guide to buying BoE mogging wands to resell in the future.  Without further ado, here are your lists, in both TSM and Auctionator formats:

***Mogging Wands
Wand of Allistarj
Wand of Arcane Potency
Torch of Austen
Antenna of Invigoration
Crystalized Ebony Wand
Wasteland Wand
Gwyneth's Runed Dragonwand

Torchlight Wand
Wand of Dark Worship
Cyu's Ornate Wand
Theresa's Booklight

Wand of Arcane Potency

I chose all of the wands based on unique models, but the price point you are willing to buy at should be based on your perception of how well it will sell in Mists.  IMO these will be a great inflation buster as well as stockpiling investment.  Just a side note to those interested:  Although Crystalized Ebony Wand and Wasteland Wand share the same model as many other BoE wands, I chose them for this list because they are the only BoE models that are black.  Hope you enjoyed the list!

My Mists Stockpile

Hey guys,

A lot of gold bloggers recently have been going over stockpiling for MoP, and while I'm not really full fledged into stockpiling mode right now, I figured I'd go over what I currently am looking for and what I'll be looking for in the future.

Pets
As you can see I have a decent amount of pets.  With the new pet battle (Pokémon) system coming out, pets are going to be a commodity in HIGH DEMAND in MoP.  People will want rare pets that not many others have.  To this tune I have been snatching up Argent Tournament pets that are below half my average server price, as well as Elementium Geodes.  The Argent Tournament Pets are pretty few and far between as is, not to mention that near the release of MoP, very few people will be acquiring more of them (if any) because they are exploring new content.  The Elementium Geodes are less than a 1% drop right now, and considering that Elementium Ore won't be farmed NEARLY as much, I'm buying these up at around 200-300g and putting them in storage for safe keeping!

Swift Lovebird
I bought these during the Love is in the Air event in WoW hoping to resell a few months down the road.  Not sure what will happen with these, but I have them.

Don Gonzales' Shiny Shield
You may remember this shield from my post Auctionating Mogging Shields.  This is a very rare drop in Cataclysm.  Although it shares it's model with a 15% drop from Naxx 10, I think it will be a good seller in MoP regardless.  The reason I am going to hold on to these to sell until MoP is that even though they're rare now, they'll be EVEN RARER once people stop doing Cataclysm content as regularly.  When doing my mogging shields search on the AH I will buy this up at 500g or below and I'm looking to sell it in the 5k+ Bracket once Mists comes out.  A great inflation buster IMO.

Mogging Wands
As you may or may not know, in MoP caster's main weapons will be wands.  Right now I'm buying up a couple of models that I think look really cool.

The first pictured is the Torch of Austen.  I like this particular model because it looks like a torch as the name implies. I think that once casters have wands as their main weapon the wand transmog market is going to explode, and this is a great already existing BoE wand to get.

The second one I have pictured is Gwyneth's Runed Dragonwand.  Although you can't see it from my screenshot, the head of the dragon has flames coming out of it.  This wand SCREAMS MoP transmog.

I'm very interested in putting a list together of some viable transmog BoE wands, as they will be a new hot market in Mists, and who wouldn't like have control of it from the get go?

So I hope I provided at least just a little insight to my stockpiling, hope it helped you get some ideas, I will be posting more in the future on what else I'm stockpiling, and hopefully a wand mogging list!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

My Favorite Cataclysmic Market

This post is for Cold's Gold Blogging Carnival which will go live on May 11th, but I know I'll forget until the 12th if I don't come out with it now so here goes :-P.  I'll try to keep reminders up on my site so you can read all the other great posts when they come out.

This month's carnival asks: "What Was A Niche Market That You Were Suprised To Find Or That You Did Better Than Expected In During Cataclysm?"

Two markets that I really loved that were introduced in Cataclysm were Transmogrification and Mysterious Fortune Cards.  They are very interesting markets and fun to play with.  By far though, my favorite new market was the "Cataclysm Twink Market" brought on by overly powerful  level 77+ gear being introduced to low level cataclysm zones (80-81).

Why it's a Great Market
The reason why it's a great market to focus on is two-fold.  First and foremost, everyone wants the best gear for their character.  If you've done PvP in 75-79 bracket you'll know that without it, you're going to have a bad time.  The stats are more than double that available on even the best LK gear in the area, and gives a big boost to any character using it (even in PvE).

Second, the gear is not obtainable AT level 77.  Period.  You can't quest in Hyjal until 80, and you can't ENTER Cata dungeons until 78, and even at 78 you'd need to be carried because you cannot queue for randoms yet.  At 77 characters have no way of getting these greens other than randomly grinding mobs on an alt and hoping that their armor and stat type drop.  Not very fun or productive.  That's where I step in.

Methodology
Many people like the broader spectrum of this level range of gear, mostly 77-80 or 77-81.  I prefer 77 and 78.  My reasoning is again twofold.  People will want the twinked out gear as soon as they can get it, ie at level 77.  Second, even a level 78 or 79 can benefit from the 77 greens, if there is not the armor type/stats they want on the AH.  On the other hand a 77 can't use a piece of 79 gear because there's not what they need on the AH.  Also, at level 78 you can attain some blue pieces of gear, only 5 that are BoE, but they're deadly.  Agility daggers, an agility staff, and strength pants are my best sellers.

I use Auctionator to do searches, mainly:
Armor/77/77/i272
Weapon/77/77/i272
Weapon/78/78/i308
Armor/78/78/i308

From there I buy any armor or weapons that would be remotely useful to players.  One thing to avoid like the plague is agility plate.  For a full list of things to avoid check out PW:G's post, about items to avoid when flipping twink gear.  In general for the 77 gear I'll buy anything 250g or under, and I sell for 499g99s99c.  For the 78 rare gear I buy anything under 500g and sell for 999g99s99c.  Over the long run I've had the same return as Jewelcrafting, as seen in my 1,000,000 gold post.

There is already on the beta sets for a similar market being added (83-84) and I hope it does just as well come Mists of Pandaria.

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Transmog-mania!

If you enjoy my blog follow my twitter, @PhatLewtsGold!

Mogging, Oh My!
Today I looked on my Transmog character's auctions on the WoW website and saw this:

At first I didn't believe it.  32k?  Hm...Maybe that's how much gold I have on that toon?  Now I usually check this guy and see maybe 500-3,000g in sales, nothing big, and I was considering not doing transmog anymore.  I was shocked.  In case you're interested in my sales they're here:

(Blue, Red, Orange are all the same 3 guys respectively.  Purple is all different characters with no repeat buys)

32k is not only a record for me for transmog (by a longshot), but also in general the largest haul I've ever had.  I was very pleased with my transmog sales for once.  Take a look at what the same characters bought.  Blue was my biggest spender, but Orange and Red gave him a decent run for his money.  One of the sales was my reaffirmed favorite: Icy Cloak.  I think I've made about 10k selling this fun to craft/obtain cloak now.  Just a quick and dirty post, felt like I had to share this one with you, hopefully I'll get my Weekly Review post out for this week either later today or tomorrow.  Until then,

Cheers,

Vendor Items You May Have Overlooked

If you enjoy my posts follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!

Like any gold making strategy, your results may vary, but it can't hurt to try!

Okay This post is going to be short and sweet, but after making 5,000g off of a vendor item that cost me 28g I feel like I have to share it.  Maybe some of you are already doing this, if not, TRY IT!

This item.  Yes that (IMO) ugly-as-sin dagger.  I sold that dagger for 5,000g.  What would you pay for it?  I don't care, because SOMEONE on my server thought it was worth 5,000g.  I'm still in shock/awe, literally can't believe it.  I went out for an enchanting formula and bought all the vendor green weapons from the NPC, and listed em all for 5k for the lulz.  Still in shock that I actually sold one.

Where'd You Get It?
This transmogable BoE item is sold, with a few other possible mogging weapons by Dealer Jadyan.  You may know this vendor from being the vendor that now sells Formula: Enchant Weapon - Executioner.  They're sold in limited supply, but if people aren't selling em for mogging, they aren't buying them, because the stats are terrible.  Honestly if you're flying out there, buy everything but the wand.  I bought them on a whim and just constantly put them up for 5,000g and after only 2 weeks I sold the ugly dagger for 5k.  I literally can't believe it.

The Other Item's Models:
BoE Phantom Blade Look-alike
Unique Looking BoE Polearm
Fist Weapon: Identical MH/OH BoE

I can't guarantee that you will have the same luck that I did, but for 120ish gold you can buy all of these and make some sort of profit, and hey, why not!?

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review: Week Ending 3/5

If you like my blog posts, follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold for more gold making tips!

Hey guys,

Again this week I'm going to summarize my week in WoW, Gold making and otherwise.

Transmog Farming
I have to start with this because it's probably the most exciting thing that happened WoW-wise all week.  The cloth head I was farming, Circle of Flame finally dropped for my posting toon/main (after about 95 runs) and I'm currently mogged it to both my transmog outfits.  I contribute data to Wowhead and I just want to mention that the drop rate for this item dropped a whole percentage point since I started farming it (but I also wasn't the only one contributing data from this boss during that time :-P).  Pictures of my 2 Xmog outfits, then to gold making news!

PvP Set
PvE Set

Icy Cloak

This week I sold my 3rd Icy Cloak, the last of my original supply.  I originally wrote a post about this cloak on this on December 30th, and since then I've made 6,840 gold from this simple tailoring recipe.  If you have any tailor over level 200 I highly suggest you try this method, you can read the original post Icy Cloak Recipe! for more info.  (Though the pattern is BoE, Horde only, it makes it that much more lucrative if you have a way to get it  to the Alliance side of your server).

All of my sales were on Horde side.  The first sale was 3200, 2nd was 1500, and most recent was 2500.  So the average of all my listing prices is 2400g.  Originally people were saying that there were vendors in Shattrath that sell an identical looking cloak for JP, and that it might not sell, but making 6840g off of an item that costs 20-50g to craft seems like a great deal to me.  I will gladly make some more and keep posting.  Additionally I sent over a pattern and some mats to my alliance Tailor (a level 20 something who is at ~160 Tailoring) and I hope to craft this soon and see how it does on the Alliance market.  A great consistant moneymaker, easy to post with the rest of my transmog gear!  REALLY suggest posting 1 at a time so people don't get suspicious!

Mogging Sales

Mogging results today after 24 hrs on AH
My mog sales this week have been pretty decent, made maybe 10k profit. I'm starting to think though that at least on my small server that mogging just isn't and won't be profitable.  Okay yes it is profitable, but I feel like it's not worth it for the time that I put into it.  Do I enjoy making a 28,000% profit on some items?  Yes.  It feels great.  But I'm just finding that the sales aren't justifying the time invested.  Considering buying any/every transmog item under 100 and posting at a straight 500g regardless of what it is.  Don't know if I'm going to take that plunge until I see another week of data.

Also lately I've been noticing, and I've seen other bloggers noticing that sometimes 'mogging' sales are really going to leveling toons (usually the cheaper of the auctions).  Just another thing to keep in mind when considering the straight 500g pricing scheme.  Also, I'm looking to keep a record of the level of the buyer of my next week of xmog sales, starting tomorrow.  Very interested to see what I personally find out.  If you would like to do the same, my email is at the bottom of this post, shoot me a line and I'll use your data when I post mine!  :-)

TSM Lists
If you didn't notice from my last post, I've really gotten away from Auctionator for searching my lists, and have been using Faid's lists as well as my own to search the AH for resale items.  I really like how TSM does their searches now, and I will probably be primarily using it in the future.  Not much else to say here that I didn't say in the original post, check it out if you havent already!  Also I'm looking for a great and comprehensive TSM Mogging Weapon list, if anyone knows of one, let me know!

Last Thoughts
This week I didn't focus much on crafting, just selling off the  residuals that were left over.  I was doing arena with a friend for conquest points and glory, which IMO is more important that gold making (sometimes).  This upcoming week my goal is to get all my crafters back into their routines and hopefully get some gold churning out of the old mill.  I dipped below 1 mill buying a few items in the past week, but I'm back over for now, no immediate goals in that regard.  If you have any questions or would like to see me post about something in particular in the upcoming week, don't hesitate to ask in the comment section, or send me an email at PhatLewtsGold @ Gmail . com

Converted TSM Lists

If you enjoy my blog, follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold for more gold making tips!

Hey guys,

Today I'm brining you some TSM lists from previous posts that I've done in the past.  Earlier this week I read Faid's post from Clockwork Riot, Importable TSM Mog Lists v2.0 and decided to let go of my tunnel vision on using Auctionator only for gear searches.  I really loved using her lists compared to the Auctionator lists, and I've decided to revamp some of my previous Auctionator lists to be importable to TSM.

If you want to learn how to import these lists, go to the link above to Clockwork Riot!!

Shield Mogging List
My original post/list for Auctionator Mogging Shields can be found at the post Auctionating Mogging Shields.

As per the suggestion from Theruling, I've added the 3 shields he suggested to the original list!  The importable TSM list is below.
Shield Mogging

Rare Chest Mogs
Last but not least, my rare chest list from my post Rare Chest Mogging Lists, you may want to remove a few of these based on the size of your server, and the quality of my original choices, I chose not to.

Rare Chests

s1@31136,31578,44697,2800,14536,9434,31152,7759,31155,13123,44666,44668,31285,31286,17050,1488,31168,31295,31170,9508,31172,1717,37770,13110,2292,37587,12988,37780,9406,1716,31282,10328,31562,37792,31297,10583,37672,37800,31127,12542,51958,37745,13067,3416,3019,31156,31174,7728$@

Cata Twink Gear
In my original post Expanding on the Cataclysm Twink Market, I posted the lists I use to search for level 77+ Cataclysm twink gear.  My fastest turnover group, the level 77 ilevel 272 weapons and armor, I've condensed into one importable 77 twink list below.  I price all of these at 500g each, so buy accordingly, read the original post for more details.

77 Twink Gear
A few simple TSM searches will cover everything on my original Auctionator lists:

77/77/i272
78/78/i308

Enjoy the lists!   Best used with the addon Mogit to see the models of the transmog gear!

Weekly Review 2/27/2012

If you like my gold blog follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!!

I decided that I am going to start doing "a week in review" posts to give readers insight into what I am personally doing.  I will be discussing no methods here, but if you'd like me to further expand on what I write, feel free to ask in the comments.

Highest Seller
This week I sold an item for 10k gold (9500 after AH tax).  One search that I like to do every so often is one for "Plans", one for "Recipe" and another for "Pattern".  Doing this search 3 weeks ago I found Plans: Felsteel Longblade on the AH for 3200g.  After much deliberation I bought it, and then held onto it for about a week trying to decide if I would flip it or craft the blades for transmog.  I decided to flip it for 10k, which isn't THAT great of a profit margin, I made 6300g from one transaction.  My highest resale profit to date.  Not all resales have to be mogging!

Constant Sellers
Gems of course are always selling, but this week I decided to go into TSM and craft profitable Cataclysm scrolls, and I've had great luck.  The searching for things to disenchant gets me the best prices on enchanting mats, and I've made about 15k profit this week just from this.  Not too bad for the hour or so it took to make the scrolls.  One of the most constantly selling and cheapest enchants to make is Enchant Chest - Mighty Stats.  I always keep a 20 stack of these on my posting toon.  If you do the ore shuffle, you can easily and cheaply make these too, and definitely should!

New Additions to Gold Making
This week watching Jim Younkin's Livestream (Jim can be found at www.powerwordgold.net) I was inspired to go rare spawn hunting in Blasted Lands.  I know this is a method that others have been using for a while, but I kind of questioned the viability of the strategy (ie gold per hour) and was a little skeptical, but decided to give it a try.  Man were my expectations exceeded.  There are 12 rare spawns in blasted lands, and with the quest items they drop, each one has 2 chances at great transmog gear.  So assuming half of them are spawned, in a bout 15 minutes on a 85 character you can get a chance at 12 mogging items.  While out there I got a Swashbucklers Eyepatch, which I think will be a gold mine in and of itself, so I was very happy.

Also new this week, Faid from the blog Nerf Faids came out with a post: Importable TSM Mog Lists v2.0.  As you know if you've read my blog in the past I have a certain affinity to Auctionator for searches, but I tried out Faid's lists this week, and I really like them.  The current project for my blog right now is looking to make my previous gold making Auctionator Lists into TSM lists that ya'll can import.  Expect them out no later than Friday morning this week.

Non-Gold Making
Recently I've decided to start farming Circle of Flame for my mage.  It's pretty easy to get to now that they added the mole machines to the beginning of BRD but I've had bad luck this week.  Over 45 attempts at this 5% drop so far.  Really like the animation on that one, and going to continue farming it in the weeks to come, hopefully just this upcoming one!  Also did LFR and a feral druid won the caster staff which made me really happy >:o.

Hope you enjoyed my week in review, check out my blog regularly this week for my upcoming TSM lists!!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Don't Call it a Comeback

Okay. You can probably call it a comeback in this case. I've been gone a long time. So if you follow my Twitter you'll know I recent...
