Phat's Weekly Lewt Review 1/3/2013

So my Weekly Review is falling a bit late this week because of the holidays, but I really want to make it a weekly event, so I'm going to go for it anyway.

Jewelcrafting

This week was particularly good in Jewelcrafting for me, I have made a ton of cut gem sales, but the bulk of my profit came from the sale of 3 of the 450 ilvl JC necks/rings.  It was actually all 3 opportune sales where someone decided they needed the gear at that time, and bought at above market prices (lots of fluctuation on my small server).  They sold at ridiculous profit margins, something to the tune of 10-15x mats, which is always a bonus.  If you haven't already I highly suggest visiting Mai the Jade Shaper and getting the JC patterns from her.  They add so much value and diversity to your Jewelcrafting arsenal, and give you something to do with all those Serpent's Eye you've been getting from prospecting.

Inscription
I was reminded by a guildie that the Darkmoon Faire was coming soon (Sunday, get on it!), and that I regrettably had to work through some milling that I had been putting off for quite some time.  I've actually been buying up cards this week, and most likely will keep buying up cheap ones until the Faire starts.  On some servers (and for some specific cards) prices are better for selling individually, but right now I could buy the parts of a Tiger Deck for about 8k less than the selling price of it's Relic.  So stocking up on the cheap cards, may end up with a few too many of a certain card, but I'm thinking I'll more than make up for it selling the relics sometime in January.

Transmog

This week I made about 4k in transmog sales, which isn't too bad considering I only posted once (with 48 hr auctions I am able be posting about 3.5 times/week).  It was honestly a bit less than I was expecting with a lot of students off this week and playing WoW, but honestly I didn't post during high volume times (weekend), so it's a pretty decent haul.

Blog Survey
If you haven't taken it yet, I have a survey I'm using to improve and decide what new features to add to my blog.  It will only take about 5 minutes at most, and I will be using all input to decide where I go with my blog in 2013.  Whether you're a new reader, or someone who has been reading over a year, I'd love to hear what you have to say!   You can access the survey at this link.  To those of you who already have, or are about to, thank you so much for your time taking the survey, I really appreciate all the constructive feedback I've received so far!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Calculating the Value of Spirit of Harmony

Okay so you've been farming Motes of Harmony, both literally with the Tillers, and also by killing mobs and receiving drops.  Now you have a decent amount, but is it worthwhile to use it for a craft?  What's the price point for one of these things?  These are the questions I'm here to answer.

Point for Comparison
Since we have a vendor that will trade Spirit of Harmony for various goods, we can calculate the "Opportunity Cost" of using a Spirit of Harmony in a craft.  9 times out of 10 on any given server the conversion from 1 Spirit of Harmony -> 3 Golden Lotus will be the most profitable, BUT if you would like to compare the other options as well, The Undermine Journal has a neat tool for doing so for you.

Once on your server page, simply hover over Consumables, then select Elementals.

After doing so you should see a page similar to this one, which will multiply by the number you can buy from the vendor by the current going rate for each item.

What this table shows us is that for every Spirit of Harmony you have, you can trade it for about 880 gold.  So if a recipe you're crafting has say 6 Spirit of harmony, and the raw mats + 880*6 = raw mats + 5280 is less than the price that you could get for that item, don't craft it! Now not everything is as black and white as say the LW or BS that NEED this in their Epic crafts, some professions have CDs that you can ignore by using SoH, and others have recipes you can buy with them. So the question for those professions is "Is having this extra CD/recipe worth the gold that these SoH are worth?" or "Is this PvP recipe worth 880g?" For example, on most servers an additional Living Steel CD for your Alchemist is NEVER worth the price of the 9 Golden Lotus I could get instead.  So it's just something to keep in mind.

Additional Valuation
So, you thought that was it huh?  Unfortunately for you it's not!   We have another problem because if you're Revered or greater with the Tillers, you have the opportunity to grow these from the ground!  Is it worth it?
Okay so make sure you've done the above step, which way is worth more?  What's a SoH worth to you? Let's say like the above example your server had the SoH worth 880g to trade in for Golden Lotus, but your LW craft for example takes raw mats that sell for 720g and 8 SoH, but you can sell it for 34k.  TUJ even does THIS math for you!

Since it's worth crafting we can calculate the value of your SoH to be (Selling Price) - (Other Mats) = 34k-720g = 33.3k divided among 8 SoH = 4,162g per SoH!!  So it's definitely worth it for you to craft this item instead of trade it to the vendor.  On the other hand, if you determine the opposite, such as an Alchemist, that it's not worth it with your 90's professions, it's only worth 880g.

Now here comes the interesting (and slightly annoying) part.  Each plot in your farm grows 1 Mote of Harmony (1/10th of a Spirit).  To the LW each plot is worth 416.2g (very nice!), but to the Alchemist, it's only worth 88g.  Not that great...could you get more planting something else?

Currently the other Revered seeds won't (on most servers) get you something worth more than 88g, as they are the most basic of Raw Mats for professions.  BUT, right now there is a very high demand for vegetables!  So back to TUJ to check: Consumables -> Cooking

You will be able to see a chart like this:

Note the price and that each plot will grow not one but five of these each day.  *Note: Ginseng is sold by a Tillers vendor. Basically multiply any of these numbers by 5 and you'll get more than that 88g.  Juicycrunch Carrot would be my go to because Intellect lovers are always my best buyers, but also note that Jogu the Drunk, for a fee, will tell you which one of these to grow each day to harvest 8 the next day.  So one of these will get a x8 multiplier instead of x5.

Now that I've thoroughly bored you to death, get out there and start getting THE MOST out of your Spirit of Harmony!! If you remember to reply after checking, leave a comment with your 2 primary professions and how much your Spirit of Harmony are worth!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Top 5 Professions to Level ASAP!

Today I figured I'd do a post on what professions I personally will be leveling as soon as possible.  Mists releases at midnight on the west coast US, which is a relatively ungodly 3 AM for those of us on the east coast.  That being said I'm still considering setting my alarm and having a pot of coffee on hand, but right now it looks unlikely. Once I do eventually log, I am going to focus on leveling my professions before stepping into Pandaria.

Living Steel
My main focus though is the new "Truegold", Living Steel.  This new alchemy cooldown is used in 28 recipes, all but 10 of which will be craftable at launch, given the crafter has the correct (and in some cases absurdly high) amount of Spirit of Harmony in some cases.  This precious metal is used in many crafts.  16 total are required to craft the new JC Epic Mount (which will require Exalted rep to get all recipes for), 1 is required to craft the new Belt Buckle, as well as quite a few needed for the BS and Engineering Epics.  Let's just say there's going to be quite a demand for this item, especially from those elite raiding guilds on your server.

Primordial Ruby
A JC's Best Friend
My second focus will be leveling Jewelcrafting acquiring all of the Jewelcrafting Primordial Ruby base cuts (Delicate, Bold, Brilliant) ASAP.  These cuts will be learned through research or doing Golden Lotus Dailies at Revered.  **Here's the thing to consider with Jewelcrafting though**, they're scaling gem cuts this expansion.  This means they're scrapping the Cataclysm (and previous expansion) model of say 40 base stats total for all gems. Instead, the off color gems will have more base stats to compensate for the lack of Primary stats (Int, Str, Agi).  This doesn't concern me because I think during the first few weeks people will still be following their old gemming ways, and I'm not too worried about these not being HOT sellers.  I may however stop once I get the Brilliant cut, so I can diversify.  The more colors of rare gems I can cut the first few weeks the better.

Without Further Ado, my list:
Top 5 Professions to Level (IMO)
  1. Alchemy
    • As Stated above, Alchemy transmutes will be used in many recipes, so I will be focusing on leveling the Alchemy my 4 Transmute Masters as soon as possible, to get these xmutes on the AH before the price drops 1 copper!
  2. Jewelcrafting
    • Again as stated above I want to take good care to learn as many cuts as possible, as soon as possible, and you can start researching once you hit 550, so after that I'm going to stop and focus on other professions.  It's also useful to note I have 2 JCs for double the research possibilities.
  3. Tailoring
    • Tailoring also has a new daily cooldown that will be added, which again will be craftable at only 550, so getting my 2 Tailors up to burn their daily cooldowns is necessary as soon as possible again.
  4. Inscription
    • Once again, Inscription is another profession has a once daily cooldown (525), which is a necessary material for Darkmoon Cards(600).
      • This makes the individual Darkmoon Cards way more valuable, and will focus trinket seekers on getting individual cards as opposed to full decks.
      • Take into consideration that there is also 3 BoA Staves that require 20 of these first daily CDs to make.  Priorities!!! **Note that you can acquire 7 per week doing proffesion specific (level 600) weekly quests, so this is where maxing your Scribe comes in handy.
        • I'm not sure if you need to be a certain level to access the area, if so you will need to obtain that level as well.
  5. Mining
    • This may seem like a curveball to some, given my (and most gold makers) "Gathering isn't the best GPH" stance.  I still agree with this, and think my profession leveling order above will payout the most, but my go to craft, Living Steel Transmute requires 6 Trillium Bars EACH, each of which require 2 of each color of Trillium Ore (so needs 24 raw ore total, 12 of each color).
      • This bar cannot be smelted by Miners until 600 Skill Level, which can only be obtained by farming nodes (no smelting skill ups), so you KNOW the bars are going to be in high demand, and are also going to be very expensive for the first few weeks. By having my own miner smelt the bars, I can cut my costs, and acquire some ore for the transmutes.  It's a win win (except I don't want to level my Tauren Druid, but oh well).
So this is it, my master plan.  If anyone is curious I will be leveling my Mage (Tailor/Alchemy) to 90 first after all this, and starting my farm ASAP, so my mage will be the first one to be able to benefit from the Tiller's Bonus Spirit of Harmony, which is nice because then I'll have the option to choose between the most profitable of the two daily CDs (Tailoring/Alch) that character can craft, based on established AH prices.

So that's my plan (and suggestion) on which Professions to level first.  Which professions are you planning on leveling up first?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Your Guide to Spirit of Harmony

***If you're here looking for a guide on farming Motes of Harmony, check out this post!!***

Spirit of Harmony
(via Wowhead)

Remember all the way back in Cataclysm when crafted items were made with Volatile Air, Fire, Water, Life, and Earth? It seems like just yesterday that multiple elementals were the norm, but Blizzard decided to scrap this system for a simpler one.  Spirit of Harmony, which are essential to about every major crafting profession, are the only elementals in MoP (for now at least).  They can be created by combining 10 Motes of Harmony which are random world drops from 85-90.

The bad news for your low level crafters though is that they are BoP, so any alts not yet in Pandaria will not be able to benefit from them.

Which Profession Benefits most from Spirit of Harmony?
This is an debatable question, but here's the breakdown (number 1 are the ones that cannot truly benefit, then the rest of the professions follow in alphabetic order).
*Right now on wowhead, the only way I can see to sort what can be crafted using this item by each profession is to go to this link and type in the profession name.

  1. Mining, Herbalism, Skinning, Enchanting
    • Relatively no benefit.  These professions can use the Spirits to trade for these raw mats, which is not terrible, but any profession could do this.
  2. Alchemy
    • Using 3 Spirits of Harmony, an Alchemist can get an extra transmute CD for the day Riddle of Steel.  (this is the Truegold of Pandaria)
  3. Blacksmithing
    • Most notably requires 8 Spirits of Harmony to craft ilvl 476 epic gloves + chest (first level of craftable epics).
      • To craft ilvl 496 items it requres 2-3 Spirits of Harmony as well as 8 Blood Spirit, an item gained from disenchanting raid armor (not available first week).
  4. Engineering
    • Staying true to Engineering's roots, it is used in recipes that create cool things (mounts, daily CD robot, etc) for the owner, as well as scopes, a gun, a pet, and a Pandarian Wormhole Generator!
  5. Inscription
    • The new Darkmoon Cards require 10 Spirits of Harmony or a weekly quest reward to craft more than one per day! This will lead to more scribes trading cards to get full decks rather than grinding a ton until they get a full deck.
    • Cool Addition: Scribes can now craft any of 3 new staves that are Bind on Account, requiring 20 daily cooldowns.
      • The 4 Inscription weeklies to get the CDs faster: avoiding the daily cooldown by doing weekly crafts, requiring 4-6 Spirits of Harmony per.
  6. Jewelcrafting
    • Not Needed for the cool new mounts!
    • Two new vanity pets require 3 Spirits of Harmony each.
    • If you didn't know already, JC now requires a daily CD to discover new cuts (you pick which color you want to discover).  You can do more the one per day using 3 Spirits of Harmony.
  7. Leatherworking
    • Similar to Blacksmithing.  Again click here and search Leatherworking to see all the recipes, again gloves and chest
  8. Tailoring
    • With 3 Spirits of Harmony, Tailors can avoid their Daily Cooldown, to craft epic items faster.
      • The epics require 4-6 of the daily CDs to create, again more for the 'upgraded' ilvl gear.

Farm Your Motes!
Like I said above, the Spirit of Harmony are created by combining 10 Mote of Harmony. If you get to revered with a new faction in Pandaria, The Tillers, you will be able to get over 1 full Spirit worth a day by "cultivating a farm".  If you're interested in learning more about this, check out wowhead's Tillers Guide, it's a very comprehensive preview of what you can expect. Basically once you get revered you can obtain Songbell Seeds and cultivate them (only taking a few minutes every day) and not have to grind out Motes from random mobs in Pandaria.  This should certainly speed up the process for any of you looking to get your hand on Spirits of Harmony ASAP.

Which profession are you leveling first, and which one do you think has the coolest use for Spirits of Harmony?

Phat Lewts

High Pop vs. Low Pop

Hi Guys,

Today I wanted to talk about High Pop vs. Low Pop servers, specifically my experiences with them.  For those of you who don't know or don't remember from previous posts, my main server is Low Pop (until MoP when it'll probably hit medium).  Recently I participated in a gold making competition where we competed on a high pop server.  Since then I have been playing with their AH on and off for fun, and I've learned quite a bit about how size effects sales among different markets, and I just wanted to share some general observations.

Transmog
Being on my Low Pop server and having a large (~800 item) transmog inventory, I get less sales per 48 hour posting  than my character on a high pop server with ~150 item inventory.  This could be due to a few factors I suppose.  There are probably more characters with disposable income on a large server, and more characters interested in transmog as well.  One thing I'm interested in seeing the results of once MoP comes around is doubling all my xmog prices (except my highest tier which is really expensive as is :-P), and seeing how the two markets react.

Jewelcrafting/Enhancement Professions
Since my experiment is mostly for fun, I decided to use a gem strategy similar to what I use on my Low Pop server and see how it worked on a high pop server.  As I don't have a JC on the larger server, I bought up gems I would craft and resold.  As you could (probably) imagine, I actually sold less gems per 12 hour posting on the High Pop as compared to the Low.  This is due to more/faster undercutting on a higher population server, which just makes sense.  Although, when I did dungeons on the high pop, I got A LOT more sales posting in between queues.  iSold was going crazy!  For a regular player who posts from their main, a High Pop server will give you a distinct advantage for repost sales, but I can't say it makes a huge difference from a small with "set it and forget it" auctions.

Inscription
In this one I have a clear favorite.  Small servers.  If you are the type of gold maker like me, you aren't logging and reposting all the time, you either want to enjoy the game time you have, or other aspects of your life, and want to get your routine done and over with.  This is where glyphs on a small server blows large servers out of the water.  Even if you have a competitor or two, it's nothing compared to what you have to face on a large server.  You can make lots of gold not having to repost so often, and that's great for me.

Advantages of my Second Server
If you're someone like me who enjoys making gold just for the "how much can I make" aspect of it, you don't like spending gold on your main server.  If you're a hardcore gold maker you'll find it easy to get on a high pop server and start making gold relatively fast.  Although I had an extra kickstart of motivation to make my characters, I look forward to using this character to purchase high-end TCG mounts, rare pets, etc. that will be account wide in MoP.  Why spend all that gold on your main server when you can get it on another server you are not interested in?  Also even though I have the utility to make gold on that server, I don't have anywhere near as much utility as I do on my main server.  That being said when Black Market AH comes out in MoP I'm not going to be depending on my secondary server to buy things (nor would I want to, especially in the case of something like gear).  So having a large gold stockpile will be functional (maybe).  What is your favorite (or least favorite) difference between low and high pop servers?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

5.0.4 on the Horizon

Well it's official.  We are now currently downloading 5.0.4, the Pre-expansion Patch leading up to Pandamonioum.  If you're interested, the patch notes for the current 5.0.4 build on the PTR can be read here.  For those of you who don't like to read through patch notes to find what you need, I'll be highlighting the gold making implications here.  Also as a side note predictions and history don't put this patch until early September, so you still have time to prepare!
He's ready, are you?

Glyphs Overhauled
Blizzard is not waiting until Mists is released to completely overhaul the glyph and talent system, they're giving us a window to adjust.  For those of you whom are scribes you know the potential implications of this.  All glyphs are changing.  A few are being removed but MOST are being changed in some way.  Speculation is saying Glyphmas 2.0 may occur, especially if the inks are no longer tradeable as they were during the original Glyphmas.  Only time will tell on that one, although I know many of us have our fingers crossed.

How I'm Preparing

I'm not big into glyphs, but with all the hype I can't not have a hand in it.  I already have crafted 9 of each glyph my scribe can craft (and doing lots of research), and hope for 20 of each before 5.0.4 comes out.  I'm ignoring the info about the ones that are changing to nothing, mostly because of my laziness.  Last I checked there were only 3, and if we make out the way we're supposed to, 3 stacks of glyphs will be the least of my expenditures.

My suggestion during your grinding is to do something else while crafting to occupy your time, and while you craft all the inks, feel free to browse the web, and perhaps catch up on your favorite TV series or read your favorite WoW Gold Blog.

Mogging Wands!
This is a market I have been looking at for a while, if you don't have my ultimate list of BoE transmog wands, check it out here!  Yes, casters will be able to use their wands as main hands in 5.0.4.  If you're not a caster and don't see why this is important, previously wands were never seen on a caster unless they took them out (rare) or if they decided to cast "shoot" with their wand (hopefully never).  In 5.0.4, wands will be used as main-hand weapons for casters, so they can (and probably will) be WAY more prevalent in transmog.  Buy low now to sell high soon!

AoE Looting
I'm excited about this one.  AoE looting will be live on servers come the pre-expansion patch, which will give us gold makers something to twiddle with in the weeks before MoP.  I mentioned in a previous post that I will be using this to my advantage to go after the pet Mr. Grubbs.  I have not tried it on the PTR because I hate putting the time in to test something and even if it works I'm not benefited by it in the "real game" (yes IRG I just got meta on you).  They have nerfed overall gold/silver drops of mobs, which is to be expected, but it will be interesting to see how other keen gold makers take advantage of this in the coming weeks.  Transitions are always a fun time in WoW.

Account Wide Pets/Mounts
This may have some gold making implications on the mount side (think Mechanohog), but there are not many gold makers who focus greatly on mounts.  This change may get you better selling prices (possibly more sales).  Buyers will be a lot more willing to shell out 20k for a Mechanohog on 10 players than only 1 player.  Same goes for pets. Since the battle system won't be instated until Mists, we won't see that huge surge in pet interest yet, but consider charging more for your pets/mounts.  Although a lot of alts will now have what you're selling, a lot of them will be more willing to pay higher prices for a companion across alts.

Cool, but Irrelevant to Gold Making
Yes 5.0.4 has other cool things but alas not all of them are going to increase our wealth.

  • Pre-MoP quests: I'm interested to see how these pan out, not released yet on the PTR so I know something epic is going to happen on the poor Alliance isle of Theramore!
  • Battle Tags: If you've played D3 you know what they are, basically real ID without exchanging Email addresses.
  • Overhaul of Abilities: Not only are glyphs being changed, but all talent trees are being completely revamped.  I'm not the one to get the info from about this though :).
All in all it's going to be an interesting time, with glyphs being my major focus (at least on the things changing level).  What is your favorite part of patch 5.0.4?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

MoP in 2 Months!

So it's officially official that MoP will be released in 2 MONTHS.

I must say I am VERY surprised it is coming out so soon, but for gold making, there couldn't be better news!  When news of Mists coming out so very soon hits the public, people will be flocking back to the game to level alts and prepare their characters for the new expansion, so look forward to increased population on all servers in the upcoming 2 months leading up to MoP.  I'm going to go over some things I'll be looking out for in the coming month.

Cata Twink Gear
The 77-80 market is not going to be replaced by anything in MoP.  There will most likely be a substantial decrease in the amount of this gear available to buy and resell, but I wouldn't worry about dumping it all the moment you log on today.  It's still a viable market come MoP, levelers will always want to buy gear, no matter how much the gold making community and advice givers in general advise against it.

Now on the other hand, if you have been dipping into the 83-84 Cata gear market, there should be a RED FLAG coming up.  SELL, SELL, SELL!!  Cut your prices in this market, still sell at profit, but you want to dump all this stuff as fast as possible.  In the same way Cataclysm created the 77-80 Twink market, Mists of Pandaria is creating an 83-84 Twink Market.  Here is a list of all the items that are 83-84 BoE added in MoP and (some are) worlds better than whats available as an epic at level 85 right now.  Keep this gear in mind when you start leveling your 85s on September 25th!

Inscription
There's been a lot of rumors floating around about inscription recently.   Going back to the Cata pre-expansion patch, we saw that you were no longer able to trade inks until the release of Cata.  Been stockpiling Blackfallow?  Start trading them in!  If you haven't been stockpiling now is the time to start, it is almost too late to ensure a great distribution, but you don't want to miss out on (what could possibly be) Glyphmas 2.0.  Make sure you keep up to date on all the OFFICIAL changes that will be made (what glyphs will be changing over, which ones are being left in the dust, what inks you'll need etc.).  If you're hardcore into inscription and you want to keep up to date on all the official changes and nuances, I'm not your man.  Make sure you follow Croda's blog marketsforgold, his main focus is glyphs, and glyphs are my least favorite market.

Stockpiling
Again, getting late on this but there are still ways to start stockpiling now.

Pets are a great way to stockpile, especially the Elementium Geode as I had suggested in previous stockpiling posts.  I plan on coming out with a post based entirely on stocking up on pets for Mists, so I'm not going to delve into it too much, but for more of a read check out Cold's post Get Out While You Still Can!

Cataclysm mats are another great thing to stockpile.  With the influx of players, raw mats on the AH should at least increase in volume, if not decrease in price as well.  For selling a few months into Mists, raw mats are a great thing to stockpile long term, especially Hypnotic Dust, as it will be needed to level Enchanting more than Cata Essences.

WANDS!
The wand slot will be removed in 5.0.4, and wands will be made a "main hand" caster weapon, with stats to match.  I wrote a post that you can find here about the best BoE wands to stockpile for this.  Again with the influx of players for Mists, you may start to find more of these wands on the AH, and should add them to your overall mogging searches.

This is just a small slice of the pie, but hopefully some big topics that you can start (or already are) hitting on.
What is your biggest goal to get done before the MoP release in 2 months?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review 7/17

If you like my blog follow me on twitter, @PhatLewtsGold!!

So I'm back doing the weekly review posts, to kind of summarize my week in WoW gold making, and give you some insight into what I'm doing currently to make gold.

Return of my Routine
This week I got out of my gold making rut I was in from the Stormspire Scavenger Hunt.  It was a fun competition and I learned a lot of how hard it actually is to start gold making on a server, especially with time constraints, and competing against like minded players!  With the return of my full effort this week I made 90,479g in profit.  Not too shabby considering that in the past few weeks I've made about 100k total, so this week (barring some expensive stockpiling) has been my profitable over the past 2 months by a LONG shot.

So this week I got back into my routine, which I don't think I've ever really detailed, and I've even gotten into...glyphs.  Yes, my least favorite crafting profession, but I've indeed been dabbling in glyphs, with good returns. Still not my favorite to grind, but I have a good TSM setup right now and it's working out well for me.  So my routine consists of the following:

  1. JC: Prospecting Ore to cut/DE (also buying/cutting LK Epic Gems)
  2. Making scrolls with leftovers from above (plus Maelstroms)
  3. Transmuting Carnelians to Inferno Rubies (to be cut into Brilliant, Delicate, Bold)
  4. Alchemy Cooldowns every day (more on this below)
  5. Milling Cheap Whiptail
  6. Glyphs - 2 of each, only posting at 200% or greater profit (again more below)
  7. Tailoring Spellthreads
  8. Transmog
  9. 77-78 Twink Gear
  10. Corrupting the Alliance side of my server (Transmog/Twink Gear only)
So I've got a lot to do, when I finish one I move on to another, and trust me I have ore and herbs backed up to be "processed" but my stock of gems and glyphs is full as is, so no need to really process it at the moment.

Glyph Setup
So the way I'm running glyphs is this.  I'm only milling Whiptail for Blackfallow Ink which I trade.  Each glyph crafted uses 3/5ths of a stack of whiptail (ink wise).  Using the price I buy whiptail as the guide, I set 300% of each glyph price (or 1.8x the stack of a whiptail) to be my minimum posting price (300% return - 100% payed = 200% minimum profit).  If it goes below that I have TSM post at my reset price (324.99g).  I post only from my scribe because I'm not walling, and I find with only 2 of each glyph as opposed to 3 which I used to do, it makes it A LOT faster for me to cancel/repost. My scribe is still learning new recipes through Research/Books so I am currently restocking every day, but once he has them all I plan on crafting maybe twice a week.  So far it's manageable, but mostly because I don't really play my scribe and set him up with 4x Inscription Bags.

Current Thoughts on Alchemy CDs
What I'm doing right now for alchemy CDs, I have three Transmute masters, and I'm having all of them transmute Volatile Air.  I was doing Truegold for a while, but decided to lay off a bit, because Truegold isn't a guaranteed good investment right now, and I already have a decent amount of it.  I'm netting a minimum 675g guaranteed return per day burning my Volatile Air CD so I'll take that right now as opposed to the Truegold.

Stockpile
Last, but certainly not least, I'm going to mention stockpiling.  I have been currently doing daily searches, and using wowuction.com to find under priced pets to invest in.  If you're interested to see my original post on stockpiling for Mists, you can find it here.  And here is how it looks now:

So now that you know about my routine, is there anything in your gold making routine that's not in mine?

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review: Week Ending 4/16

Let's start out with the "bad news" of the week

Transmog Woes
This week I was barely able to make a profit off transmog, and twice after collecting and reposting 48 hour auctions I was posting for a loss (ie. posting cost > what I made in 48 hrs).  I expect transmog to be a strong market when the player boom associated with Pandas comes along, so I may start sending the mogging gear between my 2 not played alts on my server to start posting again in MoP.  Definitely going to give it another week though to see if it was just a dryspell or my server's mogging market going down.

Now on to the good news...

Inferno Rubies Sold Off
If you've been reading my blog a while, a few weeks back i was able to buy something like 600 inferno rubies for 100g a pop.  At this point I have sold all but a few of them at an average of about 170g (after AH tax).  The profit margin wasn't as great as prospecting, but I personally enjoyed having the break from prospecting and it gave me some time to focus on other things, as noted below.

Alliance Side Project
On my server I have 9 Horde characters and 1 Alliance character.  Using the neutral AH I transfered my character Alliance side 300g and the pattern for Icy Cloak.  Using the 300g and mostly investing in 77 Twink Gear as well as some "prime" transmog gear, I am now over 10k gold on a level 33.  Not too shabby.  The character now has maxed Tailoring/Enchanting that a level 33 can have (75 more levels at 35 soon to come though), and over 10k in her pocket.  Not crafting anything now other than the Icy Cloak, just reinvesting in Mogging/Twink Gear.  I enjoy leveling the character with BoAs from the Horde side, mostly in BGs.  Being a healer in BGs, especially at that bracket in the 10 and 15 man BGs can really be the difference between a win and a loss.

Mysterious Fortune Cards
Since I had a lot of free time Horde side from not prospecting, I decided to focus in on a market I hadn't played for a while - Mysterious Fortune Cards.  MFC's are one of the easiest ways to make gold with a scribe, but you need be willing to make macros and advertise them in trade.  I've been able to sell a few stacks of these while doing other things on my computer (such as writing this blog).  I just play windowed and tab back and hit my macros every few minutes and continue on as usual.  I'm still working on the 600 Whiptail that I bought for 15g/stack 4 weeks ago, not sure I can ever get through it all.  This price puts my cards somewhere around 3.5g to make, and I'm selling them for 12g a piece, so nice returns.

In all I'm enjoying using some alternative methods to make gold this week than I normally use, and it's a nice break from the usual.  I probably won't get back to prospecting for at least another week or two, so I'm going to continue using alternative methods and working on acquiring more gold, as per usual.  If you have any ideas/suggestions feel free to leave them in the comments, and I might just try em out this week!

Cheers,

Phat Glyphs Part 2

In my post about 10 days ago, Phat Glyphs?, I went over my not so smooth entrance into the glyph market.  Today's post is going to be based off of that original post, so I suggest reading it as a preface if you haven't already.

Observations
Trying to get into the glyph market was a new and daunting task.  I had TSM all set up, but it takes time and coordination to get everything crafted.  I started off posting from a level 1 posting alt, BIG MISTAKE.  I know some like it, but it's not for me.  I don't have a LW and there were no inscription bags on the AH so instead of trying to get someone to craft them for me I just got 20 slot bags.  My personal opinion is that if you're going to post glyphs, you should get scribe bags.  There are 2 ideal scribe bags, a 32 slot, and a 36 slot.  So I decided to post all my glyphs from my scribe alt who wasn't my main posting toon.  This worked a lot better for me.

I now had the option to craft glyphs as I saw fit, and do all my glyph related activities from the one character, instead of switching around.  This really streamlined the process for me and I highly recommend it.  For some background my alt that has inscription is level 82 and will probably never see 85.  I don't really "play" this alt, just use him to craft glyphs, so the only thing in his bags other than inscription materials is a hearthstone.  This kind of situation makes my alt ideal to post from, and if it's your main, it probably won't be.

Patience, Patience, Patience.
The glyph market is a novel thing, especially when compared to other WoW markets.  The "AFK Time" in glyph making is substantial and I find myself coming back to WoW too early, as pigments take quite a bit of time to turn to inks.  Contrary to my initial beliefs though, the glyph market on my server is a viable way to make gold.  If you are a JC or Alchemist, it's going to be a culture shock, but IMO it's worth it.  Contrary to my initial post I normally make 2-3k per day with inscription, posting at most 2-3 times per day, and restocking once per week.

More Info:
While I was getting into the glyph making market, Croda's Inscription Gold Guide was an invaluable resource.  If you really want to get to know the glyph market inside and out, this is an essential read.  It's long, but really worth it and filled with invaluable information.  A must read for any aspiring scribe!
