Looking Forward: Patch 5.2 Preview

About a week ago, Blizzard released a preview of Patch 5.2 in the 5.2 PTR Patch notes.  Now these changes as we know may not see it to live, but I always think it's good to look ahead, and in this case it's no different.

First Thoughts
As it is with every raid patch, demand for consumables (jewels, flasks, food, etc.) will increase when 5.2 first is released.  This patch however comes with a questing hub that will slowly unlock new things for each faction as they progress through it.  One of them will give a distinct (gold making) advantage to Blacksmiths:
"As the heroes conquer the Isle, they will unlock the powerful Lightning Forge, which will allow Blacksmiths to forge mighty raid-worthy items, as well as classic weapons from the past."
While this is still in it's infancy stages, this is an interesting concept.  It seems that Blacksmiths will have the ability to create raid and transmog weapons, but most likely will require your BS to be 90 to take advantage of this, if it is in the final release.  Other than this particular change, a lot of the gold making changes seem to be on the front of your Tiller's farm.

Buying the Farm
The first major change to the Tiller's farm is the option to purchase the farm from Farmer Yoon.  This will make the farm a place you can hearth to and treated like an inn.  Once you purchase it you will also start receiving "work orders" from factions in Pandaria and completing them will reward you rep.  While this will most likely not net you much gold in the long run, it can certainly help you unlock rep barred recipes on the enchanter you just got to 90 (for example).  The other changes to your Halfhill Farm focus on making your farm more efficient.

Farming Like a Boss
Patch 5.2 will be adding some long awaited changes for all you farmers out there!  The first will be AoE seeding, 4 plots at a time, using special Seed Bags.  Also, using the master plow and running over plots with vermin in them, will knock them out of their plot, stunned, with only 30% health!  Wild crops will also occur less often, once again speeding up the daily farming process.  Efficiency ho!  Some very nice simplifications to the farming system.   Last but not least, possibly the most important farm change:
The yield from special crops has been improved to make farming them competitive with gathering these items out in the world.
Aaah yes, increased yield on our favorite special crops.  I must say I look forward to these changes, as well as seeing how the whole Blacksmithing changes unfold.  It will be very interesting to see how they reintroduce some unobtainable transmog items (and which ones).  This patch also contains a LOT of class changes, so if you have gotten out of the glyph market, but still have a stockpile, the release of this patch may be a time to dabble once more, for a few weeks at least.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope you all have a happy and safe new year!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

How to Be a Great Transmog Salesman Part 1

**In the comments in this post, lasagna pointed out that there's a faster method to doing this search. I outlined this method here.  You can still use this shopping list, but the other method utilizes dealfinding lists for quicker searches.**

This is intended as a simple guide to purchase transmog gear in the most efficient way possible.  If you're not familiar with Transmog or TSM, learn how to use the addon package TradeSkillMaster before reading this guide, it's necessary, trust me.  Check out Faid's Instructional TradeSkillMaster videos here.

1. Addons
To be a great xmog seller you really only need 2 addons (although TSM is a package of addons):
Tradeskillmaster: I use this to buy, post, and empty my mail (as well as keep track of sales).  In particular you'll only need the Auctioning, Mailing, and Shopping packages, but all are recommended.

Mogit: Great addon that adds hover over previews to armor items.  You'll have to check off "Load out of date addons" on your login screen for this one to work in it's current version.  It works flawlessly though, which is probably (hopefully) why they haven't updated it for 5.1.

2. My Strategy
Shopping:
A lot of gold makers use separate lists, say Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate, Weapons, and Shields.  While doing this has it's pros, you're wasting a whole bunch of your own time sitting and searching for 100 items.  I often found myself AFKing or browsing the web while doing these searches, and coming back to searches that were completed 10 minutes earlier because I got distracted.  Then it hit me.  If I'm going to do 6 huge xmog searches, why not do them all at once?  Search for 500-600 items, browse the internet, go AFK, or read my Favorite Gold Blog, and then come back later and go through the results.  I've tried it out for over a week now, and I really like my results with this method.  Generally I'll buy anything under 50g on this list, and the rest I judge by the appearance whether it's worth buying to flip.  My list is based on a compilation of these lists from Faid at GoClockorkRiot, Shannon, and myself.  Shannon's list I trimmed down a bit for my own tastes, it originally had over 200 weapons, it now has only 151.

Selling:
For those of you who are new to transmog, I'm going to go over my shopping strategies.  Those of you with preset Groups for selling set up already feel free to move to the next section.  For selling I break my items down into 4 tiers.  Some people like less, some people like more, I like four.  My different groups are set up for 48 hour posting, and priced as follows:

(Threshold/Fallback)
499/749g - Common Transmog
750/1250g - Better looking/rarer Transmog
4499/4999g - Really Cool looking/unique Transmog
17,999/18,000g - Ridiculously Rare Transmog (think Jade, Exalted, etc)

As you start working with transmog gear you may decide you want different prices or more tiers based on your server's needs.  This is what works for me, and I've had success with it.  The first 2 groups above were originally 500 and 1k in Cata, and I bumped them up when MoP was launched because inflation.  Use your best guess.  Transmog doesn't sell constantly, so don't change your price levels around too much at first.  You have to set a standard for your server, and possibly work against any competition.  Use your best guess when first making sets.  Base it off of the look, and what you think you can get out of your potential buyer for it (use Mogit to mouse over and see what it looks like).

3. The List
Below is the list, Import it by typing /tsm, going to the Shopping Options tab, clicking Shopping Lists, then Import Shopping list.  Name it and copy/paste the following data into the "List Data" field.  Hit the Accept Button, then Import List.  I had some trouble importing this list, most likely because it's so huge.  The name didn't go through at first and it took a while to load after importing, but these are minor problems that should not effect the list.

I Tailor Made This Post for Tailors

This is it.  Want to make gold with tailoring?  Try these!

Cooldown: Dreamcloth
Tailoring is a unique profession, even vs. BS/LW, because Tailoring has a unique set of cooldowns (that are usually removed by the next expansion).  The current tailoring cooldowns are for Dreamcloth.  One cooldown for Dreamcloth, Dream of Chaos recently had it's cooldown removed.  This one requires 8 Bolts of Embersilk Cloth (Equivalent to 2 stacks of Embersilk Cloth) and 4 Chaos Orbs.  The other cooldowns you can only cast once per week, and require 30 Volatiles (Air, Fire, Life, etc.).  The test here is, if you can get the Volatiles for cheaper than 4 Chaos Orbs, then do that cooldown.  If you can't (Volatile Air *cough cough*) then don't burn that cooldown.

Now for profitable uses of the Dreamcloth! other than acquiring the new Dragon Soul patterns, Dreamcloth can be used to craft Powerful Ghostly Spellthread and Powerful Enchanted Spellthread.  These are BiS leg enchants for most casting classes and sell pretty regularly, but don't forget you do get your own for next to nothing!

Vicious PvP Gear
Right now the Vicious PvP gear market is pretty hot, believe it or not.  No, it doesn't actually have to do with PvPers.  People are leveling alts, and once they hit 85 they want to get their Vicious gear ASAP, to get into HoT heroics.  To get all the patterns for the PvP gear, be sure to visit the tailoring vendor in your capitol city!  These patterns all require Bolts of Embersilk Cloth along with Volatile Fire or Water.  I personally like to craft 2 of each of these and keep both at the AH at any given time.  My fallback price is 849g each when there are none on the AH and I'm willing to go as cheap as twice the cost of mats.

Bags
Yes, the age-old tailoring money maker.  Bags are not my favorite item to craft, mostly because on my server right now, the only bags with a decent profit margin are Netherweave, and they take FOREVER to craft.  However if you are truely looking to diversify your Tailoring gold making strategy, bags are always going to make you gold.  Check your server's prices, and utilize your rare(ish) bag recipes, such as Luxurious Silk Gem Bag, a reward from Molten Front dailies.  Bags really round out well your tailoring profit potential, and shouldn't be overlooked, especially profession specific 36 slots!

Transmog!
You'd be amazed at how some craftable items are great for transmog, one of my favorites is Mooncloth Robe.  For mogging, the fastest selling thing you'll be able to craft is a robe, so go through everything you can craft as a chest piece, and start from there.  Rare recipies on the AH can turn into great profits, as are unique models such as Arcanoweave Robe.  Here is a list of all the rare and epic chests for tailoring.  Also, beyond chests, if you have the willingness to farm some adds in Karazhan every week, I think these gloves look simply amazing.

So that about wraps it up for me. Sure there are other things you can craft for profit, but after a while it's best to switch to a different profession to maximize your gold making potential. What are your favorite items to craft on your tailor to make gold

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Scroll of Resurection: Blizzard is Profiting, So Should You!

For more tips follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold! My contact email is PhatLewtsGold@Gmail.com.

So Scroll of Resurection has been reintroduced and people are given free level 80s and Cataclysm, and gold makers are trying to figure out the best way to maximize profit.  Simple.  These characters are going to get to 85 really fast.  What will they want?  They will want to see the latest content and get into Raid Finder ASAP.  OR they will want to PvP.  Either way there is a simple solution to this conundrum for any smart buyer.  Vicious Gear.  Yes this crafted, iLevel 377 gear not only gets you into heroics, but gets you resilience and stats needed for PvP.

Who?
Tailors, Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, and Jewelcrafters all have Vicious items they can craft for a profit, and let me tell you I am selling these like hot cakes.  I've made 14k selling these items, in the past 24 hours with about 9k of that being profit.  I can't keep enough of them on the shelves to keep up with the demand!  (Especially the Amberjewel Ring/Neck) (HINT: The JC rings are not unique equipped so people tend to buy in 2's)

What Else?
Of course with a whole new pool of 85s we will also see an increased demand for cut gems as well as enchants, both middle of the line and end game level.  These items will have a much higher turnover rate than before.  Also if you have some of the 397 patterns, look into the price to craft vs the price they're going for on your auction house.  On some servers this may be another viable way to make gold with your crafting professions.  Don't forget those 365 weapons either, those of you who have done FL dailies (I haven't on my BS), as well as leg armors/spellthreads.  It's like Cataclysm has just been released except people have access to better gear, and want to get it ASAP.

Tank and Healer gear.  DPS can get by in the new heroics with the Vicious sets.  Underperforming? yes. Wiping the group? No.  New tanks and healers cannot rely as much on this gear so I see a rise in Valor gear as well as crafted tank/healer gear.  Check your AH for some 397 Valor tanking boots, and if there are none, get some up, you can probably turn a decent profit.  Also check the prices of Truegold on your server before considering your Alchemist's CD.

Closing Arguements
I don't expect this surge to last particularly long, maybe 3-4 noticeable weeks at most.  Try to get out there ASAP and turn a profit on your professions.  Check your AH before hand.  Those on larger servers are more likely to already have competition in these areas, and make sure you can craft these items at a profit before doing so.

Phat Lewts

Rare Chest Mogging Lists

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold for more gold making tips!

Let me preface this a bit.  When I was on my alt in <Power Word Guild> on Lightbringer [A], I was mousing through the cloth chests when I stumbled upon Black Velvet Robes:

They were for sale for a measly 10 gold.  Since they were Rare BoE's, they were on no current mogging lists on Power Word: Gold (which are the ones that I use for greens) or elsewhere.  In less than 48 hours I flipped these robes for 2500g.  Forget the price right now, but this made me realize that there should be some buyout lists for Rare Chests in Auctionator, maybe even shoulders and pants, but that's for another day.  My list is comprised of BoE Rare chests.

How I Made my Lists
Basically I moused through wowhead, and searched through rare chests with 2 filters: BoE and not made by a profession.  From that pool I clicked through through and chose the good looking ones, and ones that could possibly compete with my common mogging list items.  With out further Ado, here are the lists I came up with!  Enjoy!

Hope this helped streamline a bit of your gold making from mogging, good luck!

Phantom Blade

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!

You may know that when Cataclysm removed weapon/armorsmithing from the game, it also removed a lot of the patterns that went with each.  One of the coolest looking ones was the Phantom Blade, and as some may or may not know, if you don't have the pattern, it was added back to the game in the 4.3 patch.

WARNING: If you want to farm this pattern it's pretty easy to farm but BEWARE the pattern is BoP so you'll have to do it on your Blacksmith.

Alright the link to the pattern is here.  You may be looking at the drop rates thinking ".02% drop rate?  That's insane!"  This is very much not the case.  This item was added back to WoW in Patch 4.3, and this .02% drop rate is calcualted on all the drops from those adds (over 115,000) since vanilla WoW, which haven't dropped the pattern until now.  For a more accurate drop rate, the WoW site lists the drop rate as "Very Low", which is in the range of 1-3% (as compared to extremely low which is <1%).  For reference another item that has a drop rate of "Very Low" is  Ashes of Al'ar which Wowhead correctly calculates, and has listed at a 1.7% drop rate.  Luckily, unlike Ashes, the Plans for the Phantom Blade are farmable off of multiple creatures that can be reset.

Farming the Phantom
To get this pattern you have to kill either Shrieking or Wailing Banshees in Stratholme's The Gauntlet, which the entrance to is located in Western Plaguelands here (don't do what I did at first and go to the regular entrance)

Once inside, you can follow this path, and you just kill the banshees along the path (dotted line is no banshees, but necessary).

Now there is one caveat to this method.  Anyone doing this method is subject to Blizzard's 5 instances per hour lockout.  At 85, you could probably do 12 of these per hour, but it WILL lock you out after 5.  I did this, and it ended up taking me 12 runs.  On average it should take less, but it is possible to take more than 12.  Again you may have to take a break, but luckily queuing for random dungeons/raid finder doesn't count towards this total so in your downtime you can do randoms.

Crafting/Selling
Like the Icy Cloak Post I wrote a while ago, this has look alikes that are available from vendors.  Your main audience is those who will see this item and say "Hey I want that, and I'd be willing to pay that price for it".  You're not going to get someone who looks it up on Wowhead and says "lol look at all these lookalikes!  I'm not paying for that one!", unless they're deadset on the color, so price it accordingly!  I just really like having these cool looking craftables on my alts, make 3-5 of them, throw them in the bank, and if they sell, great!  If not, reduce the price after a few weeks, keep trying.  I had a lot of fun farming and crafting this, and I hope you do too!  If you do try doing this, leave a comment about your experience getting it, I'd love to hear from you!

1,000,000 Gold on a Low/Med Population Server

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!

Finally made it to 1,000,000 gold this past Thursday!  On December 9th I hit half a million, so in 47 days I managed to make 500k, or about 10,500g per day profit on a server that is Low pop during the week and Medium on weekends.  For those who are curious I'm going to post some of my data taken from TSM for my favorite gold making strategies.

1) Jewelcrafting

Spent

ItemGold Spent
Elementium Ore320,156
Obsidium Ore37,051
Pyrite Ore33,301
Total Spent:390,508

Ember Topaz93,296
Demonseye64,942
Amberjewel27,367
Ocean Sapphire17,046
Dream Emerald16,785
Total Earned:804,844

This alone puts my profit from JC over 400k gold, more than doubling my original investment in the ore.  Now, this data is only for the cut gems that I sold, not to mention the rings/necklaces I made with the common gems and Disenchanted for enchanting scrolls/raw enchanting mats.  JC is my favorite, can you tell?

2) Cata Twink Gear

Lvl 78 Assorted9,3227,6601,662
TOTALS81,31940,04241,277

The reason I've included this is because, like the initial cut gems, it has basically doubled my investment.  The only difference is that this method literally takes seconds per day, compared to the enormous amounts of time jewelcrafting takes to prospect and cut.

NOTE: The "Gold Spent" column also reflects gold I have spent on items that haven't sold yet.

3) Mogging

Love it or hate it, mogging has become a great source of quick income for many gold makers, and I'm no exception.  Unlike most moggers I prefer crafting and selling items on the AH, although when I have no work to do for JC you can find me at the AH looking through models.  Here is my data for crafted and resales.

Type of MoggingProfitNumber in Category
Resales:13,78428
Crafted7,7863
Total:21,570----

The three items that I am able to resell that I craft are below with their average profit per item.  The links are to posts about them by me, or in the case of the axe, Power Word: Gold:
A lot of the responses I got from my Icy Cloak post was that there's another cloak that's purchasable from vendors in Shattrath for 300ish Justice Points.  I've sold 2 of these cloaks on a small server, and what I have to say to that is don't assume that all players have the same resources that you do, or know how to utilize them properly.

4) Misc. Sales

Some other sales data that I think is worth noting:

Wrath Epic Gems

Solid Majestic Zircon6112,870211

Easily the most profitable use for Justice Points when the gear is too cheap, will also buy @100g raw to cut.

Transmutes
Volatile Life Avg Price Bought Per: 5.24g
Volatile Air Avg Sale Price: 17.59g
Profit per "Living Element" Transmute: 185.25g (procs not included)
Volatile Air Sold: 3,690

Avg Price of Volatile Air x10: 162.5g
Avg Price of Volatile Water x10: 118.8g
Avg Price of Volatile Fire x10: 47.99g
Avg Price of Pyrium Bar x3: 36.65g
Avg Cost to make Truegold: 365.94
Cost after factoring in x1.2 proc: 304.95

Avg Truegold Sale Price: 606.34
Avg Profit per Truegold: 301.39
Truegold crafted: 55
Total Truegold Profit: 16,576g

The reason I tended to do Living Elements more even though Truegold was more profitable, there was a point in the expansion where someone who seemed to have been stockpiling Truegold decided to sell about 150 for under 400g each, which would have drastically reduced my profit margin.

Alright that's it for now, thanks for reading until the end, not all my data, but the interesting bit of it.  Look out for more gold making posts as I ease down on game time after hitting my milestone.

Cheers,

Crushing the Competition with OreCrusher 2

If you are a major gold making Jewelcrafter odds are you've probably heard of the OreCrusher 2 Addon.  If you don't use it I highly suggest downloading it and trying it out.  OreCrusher 2 just got a SERIOUS facelift that made it infinitely more useful!

The Basics
OreCrusher 2 (OC for short) is an in game spread sheet that calculates how much profit you can make if you maximize your prospecting potential.  It pulls values from Auctionator, Auctioneer, or TSM and calculates the maximum profit (on average) that you can make from prospecting each major type of ore.  A screenshot example for Elementium Ore is below(type /oc  in game to bring up this window).

**Make sure you do a recent scan of the AH with Auctionator, Auctioneer, or TSM before doing this**

OreCrusher 2's beautiful facelift

Now, they may look like Wrath gems, but the prices are in reference to Cata commons and rares.  The quantity is from Elementium Ore average prospecting rates, as I chose it for this example.  Not only does this addon tell you that your total profit will be 265 gold for 1 stack of Elementium Ore, it also tells you what to do with your commons (Transmute, Auction Raw, or DE).  It also suggests cuts for your rare gems!  To see how much profit you'd make with 2 stacks, change the # of stacks to 2 and hit the "DO IT!" button.  I can't stress how impressed I am with the added functionality of this spreadsheet addon.  I now consider this to be a necessity for any good Jewelcrafter.

If you mouse over the suggestions for the common gems, it will tell you the values it used for comparison for the alternatives.  The best way to learn about this addon is to use it in practice, so stop reading, go download it, and get using it now!

Flipping Twink Gear

Hey guys, today I decided to write about one of my favorite methods of making WoW gold.  It requires minimal work, no grinding professions, and maybe about 1,000-2,000 gold to start.  The method is flipping twink gear, and I'm going to tell you about how I do it and the addons/methods I use.

For those of you who haven't leveled an alt in the 75-79 PvP bracket recently probably don't know that in Cataclysm a whole new level of twink was invented.  At level 77 Cataclysm greens become available to players.  Cata Greens allow players to have roughly 2-3 times the stats they would otherwise have with items from Wrath.  This is the gear that I specifically target.  This gear is random world drops so you're not going to go out and farm it, you're going to Auction House farm it, and that's the beauty of this method.  Most people get a hold of this gear, and throw it on the auction house for a few gold thinking it's worthless, but a good goblin will see the value in it!

My Method
To do this I personally use Auctionator to search for the gear, and TSM to post it.  This makes it effortless, and requires minimal thinking.  I set up a shopping list on auctionator, and have two basic searches (for reference the gear we're targeting is item level 272), you can type the following into your Auctionator search bar:

Armor/77/77/i272/i272
Weapon/77/77/i272/i272

***NOTE: There are 272 plate pieces with Agility on them.  DO NOT BUY THESE!!***

All this effectively does is search for armor then weapons usable by level 77's, of item level 272. There is other Cata twink gear, but this is by far the most valuable, as it's the first pieces levelers can get their hands on!

How to Buy
I price my Cata Twink gear at 324g 99s 99c.  This is a number I picked after selling at 300g for a while and thinking people would buy it for more.  I may up it again in the future but for now I'm liking the results.  Based on this price I will buy any piece at 200g or below, the exception being plate with Agility on it.  In general you should be able to find pieces around 50g if you do this search regularly enough, the lowest I've found is 6 gold!  Below is a snapshot of TSM_Accounting's resale feature, just some of the 272 items I've sold in the past.

TSM Resale Chart

As you can see this method can prove to be quite profitable, but you need to have a bit of patience, it's not all going to sell overnight.  Using this as an ongoing gold making method can make you tons of gold in the long run!  Also you'll notice this table has the profit after the 5% auction house cut was taken out too.  Good luck hunting for cheap Cata twink gear on the AH!

Wrath Gems Still Profitable?

My DK, who happens to be my JC wracked up all of the most useful gem cuts during Wrath.  Like many people, since Cataclysm hit I've been solely focusing on the market of Cata gems, and my Wrath recipes have been sitting idly.  I recently came across a stack of raw Majestic Zircon for 80g a pop.  I cut these into Solid Majestic Zircon (Stamina) and was able to sell every last one for 215g each.  After AH fees, thats about an 125 gold Profit per gem!!

My tip of the day is use Auctionator to set up a list of Wrath raw gems, and keep an eye out for when they're cheap.  Whether they're rare or epic, usually there's a nice enough profit margin to justify the time put in.  Another alternative is watching for the mats for Icy Prism, which no longer has a cooldown, to get your Wrath gems.  If you don't pay too much for the Frozen orb (the most I'll pay is 20 g) the green gems that go along with it in this recipe are usually 1-2 g on my server, which results in some nice profits on the gems made, even if they don't proc an epic!

Personally I would only get 5 cuts (in my experience Wrath green gems don't sell well, I just sell them raw for leveling JC's).  For Red i would go with Brilliant for all the leveling casters, Purple I'd go with a Purified cut for the healers, Yellow I would go with a Quick cut, but this one could go a few ways, do some research on your server particularly, for Orange I would suggest a Reckless cut, and of course for Blue go with Solid, leveling tanks love stamina.

The only problem is if your JC doesn't have a cut, you will have to go to Dalaran to do some Dalaran JC dailies, but I'd even suggest making your JC's hearth there, because since 4.1 the portals to Orgrimmar and Stormwind are back in Dalaran.  The turnover rate isn't as high, but the rares and epics both sell at a pretty good profit margin for that extra gold making edge in what may be a niche market on your server!

Don't Call it a Comeback

Okay. You can probably call it a comeback in this case. I've been gone a long time. So if you follow my Twitter you'll know I recent...
