Milestone: Alliance Alt Hits 100k

So today I hit 2 very important milestones on my Alliance alt, level 70, and 100k gold!

Background
I've written about this alt before, but a quick summary for those who did not see those posts (they're few and far between).  On my main server I have 10 Horde characters and 1 Alliance character.  I originally made my Alliance Priest to see how I could do with the resale market on the Alliance side of my server.  For some quick (albeit expensive) start up capitol I bought an heirloom cape on the Horde side, and vendored it on the Alliance side (before cagable pets).  If you did the math I started with 300g, and now have 100k at level 70.  For a part time alt, it's not half bad!  I figure that sharing some info with you as to how I did it might help you with your repertoire, so here goes!

Flipping Out
This project has been a long time in the making, I started it in Cataclysm, and was working on it on and off.  Basically if I ever finished my gold making rotation Horde side, I'd play this toon.  If I were starting today, I would have just sold a caged pet for starting capitol if I were to do it today, and if you ever start on a new server with no high level alts, I'd suggest you do the same.  The first thing I did was join a level 25 guild.  Trying to do this without guild perks is just silly.  Looking back on my sales, some of the first flips that I made gold off of were in the 77-78 Twink market, which I still sell in now.  In the beginning I had a sale once every 2-3 days, then more often as my inventory increased.  Once I had a decent pile of gold I got into the transmog market, and that's when things really took off.  Below are 2 screenshots of some of my top sales.

Business is Booming!
As Cataclysm started coming to an end, I started leveling this toon.  As I leveled, I leveled the traditional Tailoring/Enchanting for my clothie.  Once I had high enough Tailoring, I got a friend to transfer the Icy Cloak pattern to me from the Horde side.  If you are a tailor and you haven't checked out this recipe yet, you should.  Read about it here.  For the TL;DR it's a horde only recipe, and a sweet transmog cloak.  I was able to sell two of these within the first week that I had the pattern for 5k each!!

I noticed something though on my alli priest transmog seller that I did not get on my level 1 transmog banker.  Lots of players whispering things like "why is all your @#$^ing gear so expensive on the AH!?".  Now I'm not going to accuse the scum of the Alliance of being less scrupulous of their Horde counterparts, but I had my fair share of "polite conversations" with some Allies during this experiment.  I chalk it up to actually being on the character for more than a few minutes every 2 days.  As an aside, generally if someone whispers me and doesn't use their first whisper to insult/attack me or my mother, I will be more than willing to cut them a deal.

Mountain of Gear
At this point I have something like 300 pieces of transmog and twink gear (my server is small!) that I cycle every 2 days.  On top of that I'm crafting Netherweave Bags as I just got through BC, and realized that there was about a 3-4x markup on the bags, and up to a 10x markup if I can get cloth cheap enough!  My next goal will be 80 and some maxed MoP professions.  As of now though, my priest only gets maybe 30 minutes of leveling on any given week, so that is going to be in the distant future.

I'm also playing around on another server, and making some decent progress just buying and reselling twink/transmog gear.  That character I only log maybe once or twice a week, but I've accrued about 75k, which I'm slowly investing in lvl 25 pets to move to my main server.  Kinda fun, no thinking involved.  So how about you?  Have you conducted any gold making experiments?  If so how did they turn out?

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Transmog-mania!

If you enjoy my blog follow my twitter, @PhatLewtsGold!

Mogging, Oh My!
Today I looked on my Transmog character's auctions on the WoW website and saw this:

At first I didn't believe it.  32k?  Hm...Maybe that's how much gold I have on that toon?  Now I usually check this guy and see maybe 500-3,000g in sales, nothing big, and I was considering not doing transmog anymore.  I was shocked.  In case you're interested in my sales they're here:

(Blue, Red, Orange are all the same 3 guys respectively.  Purple is all different characters with no repeat buys)

32k is not only a record for me for transmog (by a longshot), but also in general the largest haul I've ever had.  I was very pleased with my transmog sales for once.  Take a look at what the same characters bought.  Blue was my biggest spender, but Orange and Red gave him a decent run for his money.  One of the sales was my reaffirmed favorite: Icy Cloak.  I think I've made about 10k selling this fun to craft/obtain cloak now.  Just a quick and dirty post, felt like I had to share this one with you, hopefully I'll get my Weekly Review post out for this week either later today or tomorrow.  Until then,

Cheers,

Phat's Weekly Lewt Review: Week Ending 3/5

If you like my blog posts, follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold for more gold making tips!

Hey guys,

Again this week I'm going to summarize my week in WoW, Gold making and otherwise.

Transmog Farming
I have to start with this because it's probably the most exciting thing that happened WoW-wise all week.  The cloth head I was farming, Circle of Flame finally dropped for my posting toon/main (after about 95 runs) and I'm currently mogged it to both my transmog outfits.  I contribute data to Wowhead and I just want to mention that the drop rate for this item dropped a whole percentage point since I started farming it (but I also wasn't the only one contributing data from this boss during that time :-P).  Pictures of my 2 Xmog outfits, then to gold making news!

Icy Cloak

This week I sold my 3rd Icy Cloak, the last of my original supply.  I originally wrote a post about this cloak on this on December 30th, and since then I've made 6,840 gold from this simple tailoring recipe.  If you have any tailor over level 200 I highly suggest you try this method, you can read the original post Icy Cloak Recipe! for more info.  (Though the pattern is BoE, Horde only, it makes it that much more lucrative if you have a way to get it  to the Alliance side of your server).

All of my sales were on Horde side.  The first sale was 3200, 2nd was 1500, and most recent was 2500.  So the average of all my listing prices is 2400g.  Originally people were saying that there were vendors in Shattrath that sell an identical looking cloak for JP, and that it might not sell, but making 6840g off of an item that costs 20-50g to craft seems like a great deal to me.  I will gladly make some more and keep posting.  Additionally I sent over a pattern and some mats to my alliance Tailor (a level 20 something who is at ~160 Tailoring) and I hope to craft this soon and see how it does on the Alliance market.  A great consistant moneymaker, easy to post with the rest of my transmog gear!  REALLY suggest posting 1 at a time so people don't get suspicious!

Mogging Sales

Mogging results today after 24 hrs on AH
My mog sales this week have been pretty decent, made maybe 10k profit. I'm starting to think though that at least on my small server that mogging just isn't and won't be profitable.  Okay yes it is profitable, but I feel like it's not worth it for the time that I put into it.  Do I enjoy making a 28,000% profit on some items?  Yes.  It feels great.  But I'm just finding that the sales aren't justifying the time invested.  Considering buying any/every transmog item under 100 and posting at a straight 500g regardless of what it is.  Don't know if I'm going to take that plunge until I see another week of data.

Also lately I've been noticing, and I've seen other bloggers noticing that sometimes 'mogging' sales are really going to leveling toons (usually the cheaper of the auctions).  Just another thing to keep in mind when considering the straight 500g pricing scheme.  Also, I'm looking to keep a record of the level of the buyer of my next week of xmog sales, starting tomorrow.  Very interested to see what I personally find out.  If you would like to do the same, my email is at the bottom of this post, shoot me a line and I'll use your data when I post mine!  :-)

TSM Lists
If you didn't notice from my last post, I've really gotten away from Auctionator for searching my lists, and have been using Faid's lists as well as my own to search the AH for resale items.  I really like how TSM does their searches now, and I will probably be primarily using it in the future.  Not much else to say here that I didn't say in the original post, check it out if you havent already!  Also I'm looking for a great and comprehensive TSM Mogging Weapon list, if anyone knows of one, let me know!

Last Thoughts
This week I didn't focus much on crafting, just selling off the  residuals that were left over.  I was doing arena with a friend for conquest points and glory, which IMO is more important that gold making (sometimes).  This upcoming week my goal is to get all my crafters back into their routines and hopefully get some gold churning out of the old mill.  I dipped below 1 mill buying a few items in the past week, but I'm back over for now, no immediate goals in that regard.  If you have any questions or would like to see me post about something in particular in the upcoming week, don't hesitate to ask in the comment section, or send me an email at PhatLewtsGold @ Gmail . com

1,000,000 Gold on a Low/Med Population Server

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!

Finally made it to 1,000,000 gold this past Thursday!  On December 9th I hit half a million, so in 47 days I managed to make 500k, or about 10,500g per day profit on a server that is Low pop during the week and Medium on weekends.  For those who are curious I'm going to post some of my data taken from TSM for my favorite gold making strategies.

1) Jewelcrafting

Spent

ItemGold Spent
Elementium Ore320,156
Obsidium Ore37,051
Pyrite Ore33,301
Total Spent:390,508

Gold Earned on Cut Gems (Sums of Rare Cuts)

Ember Topaz93,296
Demonseye64,942
Amberjewel27,367
Ocean Sapphire17,046
Dream Emerald16,785
Total Earned:804,844

This alone puts my profit from JC over 400k gold, more than doubling my original investment in the ore.  Now, this data is only for the cut gems that I sold, not to mention the rings/necklaces I made with the common gems and Disenchanted for enchanting scrolls/raw enchanting mats.  JC is my favorite, can you tell?

2) Cata Twink Gear

Armor TypeGold EarnedGold SpentProfit
Lvl 77 Cloth13,3754,4768,599
Lvl 77 Leather13,0527,3255,727

Lvl 78 Assorted9,3227,6601,662
TOTALS81,31940,04241,277

The reason I've included this is because, like the initial cut gems, it has basically doubled my investment.  The only difference is that this method literally takes seconds per day, compared to the enormous amounts of time jewelcrafting takes to prospect and cut.

NOTE: The "Gold Spent" column also reflects gold I have spent on items that haven't sold yet.

3) Mogging

Love it or hate it, mogging has become a great source of quick income for many gold makers, and I'm no exception.  Unlike most moggers I prefer crafting and selling items on the AH, although when I have no work to do for JC you can find me at the AH looking through models.  Here is my data for crafted and resales.

Type of MoggingProfitNumber in Category
Resales:13,78428
Crafted7,7863
Total:21,570----

The three items that I am able to resell that I craft are below with their average profit per item.  The links are to posts about them by me, or in the case of the axe, Power Word: Gold:
A lot of the responses I got from my Icy Cloak post was that there's another cloak that's purchasable from vendors in Shattrath for 300ish Justice Points.  I've sold 2 of these cloaks on a small server, and what I have to say to that is don't assume that all players have the same resources that you do, or know how to utilize them properly.

4) Misc. Sales

Some other sales data that I think is worth noting:

Wrath Epic Gems
Gem and CutNumber SoldGold MadeAverage Gold/Sale
Brilliant Cardinal Ruby11022,288202.6
Solid Majestic Zircon6112,870211
Mystic King's Amber9621,535224.3

Willful Ametrine133,130240.8
Purified Dreadstone4763190.4
Total:30765,149g212.2

Easily the most profitable use for Justice Points when the gear is too cheap, will also buy @100g raw to cut.

Transmutes
Volatile Life Avg Price Bought Per: 5.24g
Volatile Air Avg Sale Price: 17.59g
Profit per "Living Element" Transmute: 185.25g (procs not included)
Volatile Air Sold: 3,690
Total for Living Elements: 45,571g (Didn't include procs)

Avg Price of Volatile Air x10: 162.5g
Avg Price of Volatile Water x10: 118.8g
Avg Price of Volatile Fire x10: 47.99g
Avg Price of Pyrium Bar x3: 36.65g
Avg Cost to make Truegold: 365.94
Cost after factoring in x1.2 proc: 304.95

Avg Truegold Sale Price: 606.34
Avg Profit per Truegold: 301.39
Truegold crafted: 55
Total Truegold Profit: 16,576g

The reason I tended to do Living Elements more even though Truegold was more profitable, there was a point in the expansion where someone who seemed to have been stockpiling Truegold decided to sell about 150 for under 400g each, which would have drastically reduced my profit margin.

Alright that's it for now, thanks for reading until the end, not all my data, but the interesting bit of it.  Look out for more gold making posts as I ease down on game time after hitting my milestone.

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Tailors: Icy Cloak Recipe!

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!
Disclaimer: This gold making method is NOT for the feint of heart.

UPDATE:  I've managed to sell this cloak Horde side for over 3k gold!

Requirements: Tailor and Alchemist (Only needs to be @ skill 200 which requires level 20)
Suggested: Tailor, Alchemist, and Herbalist

This is what the Cloak in question looks like:

For transmog, this cloak is not unique, in fact there are many other places to get it, but the one thing in your favor is that this is the only way that produces a BoE version of the cloak, AND this recipe is not available to the Alliance at all.  (Also, Priests love this cloak and it's cheap to make)

Step 1: Getting your Recipes
Pattern: Icy Cloak is sold by a vendor only friendly to Horde players, Ghok'kah.  This and the other recipe are Limited Supply so they may not be there right away, and may require some camping to obtain!

**If you are going to transfer this to the Alliance and you have an Alliance tailor/alchemist now would be the best time to transfer this recipe as the next one can be obtained by Alliance or Horde

The other recipe you will most likely need is Recipe: Frost Oil, as Frost Oil is a reagent required to craft the cloak.  This one is sold by Bro'kin, and again will require a decent bit of camping as it is Limited Supply.

Step 2: Getting your Mats
The mats for Icy Cloak (other than the Frost Oil that you're going to make) are all pretty common and cheap to buy off your Auction House.  The Frost Oil may provide a bit of a problem and this is where having an herbalist will really help you.  The one annoying mat is Dragon's Teeth.  This does drop from a lot of low level instances (Maraudon mostly) so there may be a bit on your AH if the low lvls were smart enough to post it.  If not, the herb nodes are only located in the Badlands.  Get all your mats together and craft the cloak!

Step 3: ?????

Step 4: Profit
List the cloak on the AH for a reasonable price (I'd suggest 500-1,000 g depending on the size of your server) and wait for it to sell!

Observations/Comments
This pattern is not available to the Alliance so flipping the pattern on the Alli side (or getting it on an alt over there) may be even better than crafting the cloak.  There are very easy ways of obtaining a cloak that looks like this but hopefully people will see yours in the AH and say "Hey that looks good, and I'm willing to pay the price to not do research" and you'll be all set.

Good luck camping vendors!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts  (@PhatLewtsGold)

Don't Call it a Comeback

Okay. You can probably call it a comeback in this case. I've been gone a long time. So if you follow my Twitter you'll know I recent...
