Tailors: Icy Cloak Recipe!

Follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold!
Disclaimer: This gold making method is NOT for the feint of heart.

UPDATE:  I've managed to sell this cloak Horde side for over 3k gold!

Requirements: Tailor and Alchemist (Only needs to be @ skill 200 which requires level 20)
Suggested: Tailor, Alchemist, and Herbalist

This is what the Cloak in question looks like:

For transmog, this cloak is not unique, in fact there are many other places to get it, but the one thing in your favor is that this is the only way that produces a BoE version of the cloak, AND this recipe is not available to the Alliance at all.  (Also, Priests love this cloak and it's cheap to make)

Step 1: Getting your Recipes
Pattern: Icy Cloak is sold by a vendor only friendly to Horde players, Ghok'kah.  This and the other recipe are Limited Supply so they may not be there right away, and may require some camping to obtain!

**If you are going to transfer this to the Alliance and you have an Alliance tailor/alchemist now would be the best time to transfer this recipe as the next one can be obtained by Alliance or Horde

The other recipe you will most likely need is Recipe: Frost Oil, as Frost Oil is a reagent required to craft the cloak.  This one is sold by Bro'kin, and again will require a decent bit of camping as it is Limited Supply.

Step 2: Getting your Mats
The mats for Icy Cloak (other than the Frost Oil that you're going to make) are all pretty common and cheap to buy off your Auction House.  The Frost Oil may provide a bit of a problem and this is where having an herbalist will really help you.  The one annoying mat is Dragon's Teeth.  This does drop from a lot of low level instances (Maraudon mostly) so there may be a bit on your AH if the low lvls were smart enough to post it.  If not, the herb nodes are only located in the Badlands.  Get all your mats together and craft the cloak!

Step 3: ?????

Step 4: Profit
List the cloak on the AH for a reasonable price (I'd suggest 500-1,000 g depending on the size of your server) and wait for it to sell!

Observations/Comments
This pattern is not available to the Alliance so flipping the pattern on the Alli side (or getting it on an alt over there) may be even better than crafting the cloak.  There are very easy ways of obtaining a cloak that looks like this but hopefully people will see yours in the AH and say "Hey that looks good, and I'm willing to pay the price to not do research" and you'll be all set.

Good luck camping vendors!

Give Your Competitors the Rod!!

Don't forget to follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold.

One of my favorite methods of making gold is reselling vendor items.  This post isn't about what vendor items you should sell, you probably have heard of all of these.  It's of a brand new way of acquiring these patterns in Cataclysm that most people haven't yet realized.

Captain Samir
Captain Samir has many patterns in his inventory that were once "Limited Supply" items pre-Cata.  He is found in Kelp'thar Forest, and is really easy to get to if you have done a bit of questing in Vashj'ir.  He has patterns that some completionists may be hunting for but the big scores are Plans: Adamantite Rod and Plans: Eternium Rod.  These are the only two blacksmithing rods that blacksmiths can't make without the plans, and they were previously bought in limited supply.  Now you can stock up and fill your bank with these for future postings!  I suggest posting 1-2 at a time, so people don't go googling them!

These patterns are great because both rods are required by enchanters, and when leveling enchanters spam trade looking for a rod and a BS realizes he doesn't have the recipe, the first thing he'll do is check the AH.  Price appropriately and you'll have a nice flow of income from these things.  As an added bonus you can craft them on your BS and mark up the prices because they're hard to come by!

Phat Glyphs Part 2

In my post about 10 days ago, Phat Glyphs?, I went over my not so smooth entrance into the glyph market.  Today's post is going to be based off of that original post, so I suggest reading it as a preface if you haven't already.

Observations
Trying to get into the glyph market was a new and daunting task.  I had TSM all set up, but it takes time and coordination to get everything crafted.  I started off posting from a level 1 posting alt, BIG MISTAKE.  I know some like it, but it's not for me.  I don't have a LW and there were no inscription bags on the AH so instead of trying to get someone to craft them for me I just got 20 slot bags.  My personal opinion is that if you're going to post glyphs, you should get scribe bags.  There are 2 ideal scribe bags, a 32 slot, and a 36 slot.  So I decided to post all my glyphs from my scribe alt who wasn't my main posting toon.  This worked a lot better for me.

I now had the option to craft glyphs as I saw fit, and do all my glyph related activities from the one character, instead of switching around.  This really streamlined the process for me and I highly recommend it.  For some background my alt that has inscription is level 82 and will probably never see 85.  I don't really "play" this alt, just use him to craft glyphs, so the only thing in his bags other than inscription materials is a hearthstone.  This kind of situation makes my alt ideal to post from, and if it's your main, it probably won't be.

Patience, Patience, Patience.
The glyph market is a novel thing, especially when compared to other WoW markets.  The "AFK Time" in glyph making is substantial and I find myself coming back to WoW too early, as pigments take quite a bit of time to turn to inks.  Contrary to my initial beliefs though, the glyph market on my server is a viable way to make gold.  If you are a JC or Alchemist, it's going to be a culture shock, but IMO it's worth it.  Contrary to my initial post I normally make 2-3k per day with inscription, posting at most 2-3 times per day, and restocking once per week.

More Info:
While I was getting into the glyph making market, Croda's Inscription Gold Guide was an invaluable resource.  If you really want to get to know the glyph market inside and out, this is an essential read.  It's long, but really worth it and filled with invaluable information.  A must read for any aspiring scribe!

TSM Lists

Just a quick tip, but a valuable one.  Today if you do nothing else, go through your TSM posting lists, and see if there's something that you haven't been posting in a while that's a big money maker.  Whether it's a vendor item you buy or maybe the rods for enchanters that you haven't made on your blacksmith in who knows how long, get those items back on the shelf!  The more diversification you have, the more likely you are each time you batch post to make extra sales.  Don't forget to dust off your old favorites for that extra gold making punch!!

Auctionating

As featured in Kuja's Gold Mine

In my recent post, Flipping Twink Gear, I advocated the use of the addon Auctionator to search for level 77 Twink gear to flip on the AH.  This is only the tip of the iceberg as far as the usefulness of this addon goes.  Used correctly, Auctionator can easily do things that no other addon can!

Searching for Craft Items
As a WoW player you probably have a crafter that has needed to gather materials to craft an item.  Auctionator includes a functionality that lets you search for the items needed to craft a certain item, as well as the item itself, to compare the costs of crafting and easily buy.  How to do this is listed below.

While having the Auction house window open, find the item you're interested in crafting in your profession window.  For me it's Icy Prism.  In the craft window click the [AH] button.

AH Button

This will bring up a window that looks like this, searching for all the individual mats of Icy Prism:

Step 2
*Note: For those of you who don't know, Icy Prism is not something you can buy on the AH.

Here you have the option to Save this Shopping List, if you don't want to have to click the AH button every time you do this search.  I wouldn't buy at these prices, but if you chose to you can click on each item and individually buy as many or as few as you want, as shown below.

Step 3

Once you're done Buying as many as you need you can hit the Back button to return to the page with all the separate addons.  The sky is the limit for this one, there are many creative ways to make shopping lists and Auctionator is a great addon to use for all your bulk purchasing.  It's a great supplement to TSM!

Gold Project

I decided recently that I would start a gold making "project".  I started a character on a high population server, and I am going to see how much time /played it takes me to get to get to 500k gold.  Details are below.

The Plan
Start a DK on a high population server that I have NO ALTS on, pick up and level mining and herbalism to get a pile of gold going, then drop them for JC/Alchemy and start raking in the gold to 500K.  Track /played and see how long it takes.

Evaluation
As of this post my Death Knight has 4051g 63s 64c and /played is 3 days, 4 hours, 45 minutes.  My DK is also level 82 with 525 mining/herbalism.  I could have had more gold by now but my favorite thing to do in Cataclysm is do the 77-79 PvP bracket with Twink Gear.  Great way to make money also  means a great way to lose money on the opposite end.

Short Term Goal
10k Gold, of which I will spend on materials necessary to grind JC and Alchemy to 525, and have at least  2K left over.

Long Term Goal
500k gold.  1 Toon on the server.

I am going to keep posting in and out on this, probably only as I hit my short term goals.  If you are interested in more frequent info on my project follow me on twitter @PhatLewtsGold

New Gold Makers

I have been reading a lot of gold blogs recently and there always seem to be quite a few comments on articles saying "I don't know how you make that much gold."  What you need to know is it takes money to make money.  You cant just go farm some Elementium Ore and be gold capped by the next time you log in.  It takes time and patience, and like I said a base of gold.

All Your Base Are Belong To Us
What you say?  That's right, you need a base of WoW gold to start making some serious scrap.  This shouldn't come as a surprise.  My favorite way of making gold quick without a base of gold is farming.  I find farming to be relaxing sometimes, maybe you're a quester who does dailies, or likes to run instances.  However get your base make sure you have enough for the next leg of your journey.

Picking the Right Professions
Inscription is not for everybody (especially not me).  Leatherworking may not be your thing.  Pick professions that make you gold, but pick professions you will be able to maintain.  Jewelcrafting and Alchemy are always winners on every server, and IMO the pair cannot be beat.  Becoming a tailor to do spellthreads and then forgetting about it and letting it fall to the wayside is not worth the cost of leveling the tailoring.

Learn to use TSM
If I could underline this three times I would.  I know it looks scarey, but if you're really going to get serious about making a lot of gold, you simply have to use TSM.  It's one of the best addons out there for any gold maker, and without it I think a lot of us would be sitting ducks, or investing way more time into making gold than we had to.  This addon revolutionized gold making, and you shouldn't be without it at this point in the game.  Other addons are alright, and may speed up your process but learning how to use TSM is the most valuable thing you can do with your researching time.

Time is Money
No matter how you do it, making WoW gold is going to take time.  As much as gold bloggers like to say that JC isn't farming, prospecting and cutting gems takes real time, and the more time you put into it the more gold you'll get out of it.  Kinda sounds like farming right?   The difference is this though: JC makes more money per unit of time put in.  Bottom line.  Spend 1 hr farming compared to 1hr prospecting ore and cutting gems, you'll make more money on the JC every time.

Phat Glyphs?

So earlier this week I got into glyph making.  This is the first time ever crafting glyphs using TSM, and even with it getting my mass pile of glyphs was agonizingly slow.  My scribe isn't the most talented or versed in glyphs.  In fact I picked up Inscription post Cataclysm and don't have a single glyph from Book of Glyph Mastery.  All he has been doing in Cata is making fortune cards and using the excess inferno inks to make darkmoon trinkets.  That has been going great, barking up the cards, crafting some into Fortune Cookies, making a killing.  But glyphs are foreign to me and after my JC's tapped out the ore market, I decided to give it a try.

Crafting
After milling all the pigments (I just used whiptail and converted the inks) and crafting all the inks and gathering all the parchment it took me at least 4-5 hours to craft my base set of glyphs.  I started out crafting 3 of each but changed it to 2 when I realized I didn't mill near enough herbs.  As you know if you raid my post Busy Tuesdays I like to post all my auctions from the character I play the most, which is made nearly impossible with the mass amount of glyphs.  Reluctantly I made a lvl 1 posting toon, and set myself up for business with TSM.

Results
After my first batch posting, I came back 3 hours later and netted a mass of 300g.  After canceling anything that was undercut and reposting, and again waiting 2-3 hours, I had 400 gold and was undercut everywhere again.  I talked to a guildie about it who is a more hardcore scribe than I on my server and he thinks that the fact that our server is small paired with the low amount of people making alts during the beginning of 4.3 is really putting a hurting on the Glyph Market.

Conclusions
Since I decided not to post anything less than half the costs of the mats (roughly 25g) I (sadly) ended up with two full bags of glyphs, and each time I try to post with TSM it really slows me down because they scan each of those glyphs every time.  I'm going to start putting them in separate bags I alternate into my poster's bank, and attempting to post them after I get all the constant on/off glyphs in the AH, this should speed up my TSM quite a bit and allow me to hold more glyphs in my bags at once.  Already thinking I should just go back to the fortune side of things only, but I'm gonna keep at it for a few weeks with my Northrend Inscription Research to see if it leads anywhere.

Crushing the Competition with OreCrusher 2

If you are a major gold making Jewelcrafter odds are you've probably heard of the OreCrusher 2 Addon.  If you don't use it I highly suggest downloading it and trying it out.  OreCrusher 2 just got a SERIOUS facelift that made it infinitely more useful!

The Basics
OreCrusher 2 (OC for short) is an in game spread sheet that calculates how much profit you can make if you maximize your prospecting potential.  It pulls values from Auctionator, Auctioneer, or TSM and calculates the maximum profit (on average) that you can make from prospecting each major type of ore.  A screenshot example for Elementium Ore is below(type /oc  in game to bring up this window).

**Make sure you do a recent scan of the AH with Auctionator, Auctioneer, or TSM before doing this**

OreCrusher 2's beautiful facelift

Now, they may look like Wrath gems, but the prices are in reference to Cata commons and rares.  The quantity is from Elementium Ore average prospecting rates, as I chose it for this example.  Not only does this addon tell you that your total profit will be 265 gold for 1 stack of Elementium Ore, it also tells you what to do with your commons (Transmute, Auction Raw, or DE).  It also suggests cuts for your rare gems!  To see how much profit you'd make with 2 stacks, change the # of stacks to 2 and hit the "DO IT!" button.  I can't stress how impressed I am with the added functionality of this spreadsheet addon.  I now consider this to be a necessity for any good Jewelcrafter.

If you mouse over the suggestions for the common gems, it will tell you the values it used for comparison for the alternatives.  The best way to learn about this addon is to use it in practice, so stop reading, go download it, and get using it now!

Busy Tuesdays

Aaaaah Tuesdays.  Another chance to cap out on Valor and Conquest Points.  Another chance to run raids and get more gear.  Another chance to make Tons of WoW gold!!

Tuesday is the first day of the WoW week, and it's when there is a spike in demand for all the goods that are crafted by major gold makers.  If you're like me, you also are in the rush of people trying to cap out on Valor or Conquest and are doing Raid Finder to finish your tier and get 384.  What to do to make a profitable Tuesday?  I'm going to share my ideas on the topic.

Craft in Advance
If you usually have two stacks of Greater Cosmic Essence to post from your posting toon on any given (regular) day, make it three.  If you anticipate selling 25 Brilliant Inferno Rubies, craft 35.  Be ready for any fluctuations.  You want to play your "main", and you should!  If you prepare ahead so you don't have to jump alts to craft things because you won't run out!

Make your "Main" Your Poster
If you play a character and run dungeons or do 2v2 arena, you could be posting auctions in between.  Now too much posting is a bad thing, but if you can post once an hour without having to switch toons while doing a dungeon or PvP grind, why not?  If you organize any character appropriately they can be a posting toon!  I switch "mains" a lot so my posting toon gets changed at least once every few months.  If you're playing that character the most, they should be your posting toon, it's pure logic!  If you use TSM you dont even need to change a thing, it can't tell if you're posting from your mages bags or your rogues bags.

Doing these 2 simple steps can get you posting more frequently, which leads to more sales and more gold!  Happy Tuesday everyone!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Profession Pricing

Recently in a WoW gold blog that I read, marketsforgold, croda has touched upon his theories behind how to evaluate your gold flows.  I really suggest reading what he writes, it's very interesting.  I find this topic really intriguing so I figured I'd put my 2 cents in.  For most of this post I'm going to use a base example, I've chosen Inferno Rubies because they're a gold making favorite of mine.

Services
So how much is your Inferno Ruby worth?  Let's say you can buy uncut Inferno Rubies on the AH for 150g each, and can sell the major cuts for 195g.  This means that the act of cutting the gem is worth 45g to you (ignoring AH fees).  Let's take it a step farther.  You decide to buy 100 stacks of Elementium Ore for a reasonable price and prospect it.  Luckily you also have a Transmute Master alchemist who can transmute your extra Carnelians with a few Heartblossom to more gold making Inferno Rubies.  Doing the calculations, you estimate that it's costing you 60g on average to make an Inferno Ruby.  So the action of prospecting and Transmuting is worth 90g per gem.

In both these examples you are taking less valuable items and adding value to them by using your profession(s).  You're doing a service for someone who doesn't have the profession.  You spent your time leveling your profession to 525, they didn't, so you rightfully charge them for your expertise in the area.  ON TOP of that, you're going out of your way to gather the materials, craft them, and post the finished product on the AH.  Therefore you deserve much more than that measly tip they'd give you if they found you via trade chat.

Gold Per Hour
In croda's recent post Measuring Gold Per Hour he outlines how he evaluates his time spent making gold.  His overall strategy is great, which he summarizes at the end, it's well worth the read.  What I do is a bit different.  I don't care how long an item takes to sell on the AH, I craft based on what's in my inventory, ordered by most profitable professions.  Unlike some of you though, I always have enough professions to keep me busy.  If you're new to a server or the game in general you may only have 2 maxed professions.  Basically I organize my professions (loosely) via this flow chart which is based on my servers economy (yours may differ):

Cutting Gems > Prospecting > Alchemy CDs > Inscription > Enchanting > Tailoring > Cooking > Farming

Again, this is a loose, but mostly accurate priority order as far as my actions go.  I like to keep around 40 of each (Delicate, Brilliant, Bold) Inferno Ruby cut in my poster's bags at any given time, so I'll cut raw gems I may have sitting on my JC.  If I need more gems, I'll prospect.  Then I go back to the beginning.  Okay I cut the gems now, so I don't need to prospect, better do my Alchemy CDs, okay got all that done, log on to my scribe, and so on.  Again this is a loose guide but usually how it goes.  My method is based on what I have to sell not how long it's going to take to sell (A great example of this is in my post Flipping Twink Gear), but like I said I really never reach the end of the list so it's not a problem for me, there's always SOMETHING to do.

AFK Time!
AFK time is something well worth evaluating.  The most notorious Profession for having AFK time is Inscription (Granted you mill your own pigments).  After milling all your herbs you are going to craft 500 inks.  GO AFK!  You have other things to do, you don't need to watch your character craft inks.  Take this time to do something that needs to get done outside of WoW.  Now you're being productive IRL and in WoW.  It's a win win!  I personally don't consider this time as time taken/lost to crafting.  Even if you're about to go out, just log your scribe, hit Create All and leave!  Worst thing that happens is the game logs you out before you finish and you have to do it later.  Whether you're grabbing a glass of water, going to the bathroom, or maybe tabbing to read your favorite gold blog (hint hint), take the time to get away from WoW for a bit.

That's all for now.  I think there is more I could say on the topic, but for the sake of people actually getting through the whole post, I think this is a good stopping point.  If you have any questions or would like to see a post about a specific topic, post a comment asking for it!

Cheers,

Flipping Twink Gear

Hey guys, today I decided to write about one of my favorite methods of making WoW gold.  It requires minimal work, no grinding professions, and maybe about 1,000-2,000 gold to start.  The method is flipping twink gear, and I'm going to tell you about how I do it and the addons/methods I use.

For those of you who haven't leveled an alt in the 75-79 PvP bracket recently probably don't know that in Cataclysm a whole new level of twink was invented.  At level 77 Cataclysm greens become available to players.  Cata Greens allow players to have roughly 2-3 times the stats they would otherwise have with items from Wrath.  This is the gear that I specifically target.  This gear is random world drops so you're not going to go out and farm it, you're going to Auction House farm it, and that's the beauty of this method.  Most people get a hold of this gear, and throw it on the auction house for a few gold thinking it's worthless, but a good goblin will see the value in it!

My Method
To do this I personally use Auctionator to search for the gear, and TSM to post it.  This makes it effortless, and requires minimal thinking.  I set up a shopping list on auctionator, and have two basic searches (for reference the gear we're targeting is item level 272), you can type the following into your Auctionator search bar:

Armor/77/77/i272/i272
Weapon/77/77/i272/i272

***NOTE: There are 272 plate pieces with Agility on them.  DO NOT BUY THESE!!***

All this effectively does is search for armor then weapons usable by level 77's, of item level 272. There is other Cata twink gear, but this is by far the most valuable, as it's the first pieces levelers can get their hands on!

How to Buy
I price my Cata Twink gear at 324g 99s 99c.  This is a number I picked after selling at 300g for a while and thinking people would buy it for more.  I may up it again in the future but for now I'm liking the results.  Based on this price I will buy any piece at 200g or below, the exception being plate with Agility on it.  In general you should be able to find pieces around 50g if you do this search regularly enough, the lowest I've found is 6 gold!  Below is a snapshot of TSM_Accounting's resale feature, just some of the 272 items I've sold in the past.

TSM Resale Chart

As you can see this method can prove to be quite profitable, but you need to have a bit of patience, it's not all going to sell overnight.  Using this as an ongoing gold making method can make you tons of gold in the long run!  Also you'll notice this table has the profit after the 5% auction house cut was taken out too.  Good luck hunting for cheap Cata twink gear on the AH!

Half a Million (How to Level Alts)

FINALLY!  I finally hit half a million gold.  It wasn't because I couldn't have earned it before now, but I'm a chronic spender!  Every time one of my alts dinged 85 (and I now have 6) I had to get them the latest gear (even though I now regularly play 2).  Repair mounts?  "Had" to have them!  Dalaran Rings, etc.

Did I put a lot of gold into my alts?  Yes.  Did they end up paying for themselves?  ...mostly.  Either way, today I'm going to focus on my theory of leveling alts.

How to Make Gold Using Alts.
This is my key method to making tons of gold leveling alts.  Some may disagree, some may have suggestions to tweak or better use my general method, but this is what I do, and I will provide an argument for why, and how to better it.

Farm.  Yup I said it, Farm.  Get Herbalism and Mining on your alt from the first profession NPCs that you see, and get out there and farm (don't forget a Mining Pick).

Yes, I know, farming at max level isn't the most effective way of making gold, but due to these professions rewarding XP just for doing them, it's the best way of making gold while leveling!

**Note: If you are interested in having a max level mine/herbalist farmer Horde side, I suggest rolling a Tauren Druid.  Taurens have a passive racial Cultivation that allows them to gather herbs faster than other races, and Druid Flight Form at lvl 60+ is an instant cast and you don't have to leave it to Herbalize.  It's the most efficient Mining/Herbalism combo in the game, if you care.  (If you roll Alliance, a druid in general is still the fastest because of the reasons listed)

Why This Method Works:

This is the most cost effective way to level your toon.  If you're going to level an alt, why not have it work for you?  Mining and Herbalism are the 2 professions that will grant you XP solely for doing them.   My advice now is to sell the raw materials and start making gold for this toon.  You can farm sitting in a queue, and farming gets you around the same XP as grinding quests, but makes you A LOT more gold!

If you are interested in finding the best places to level your herb/mining or just professions in general I suggest using wow-professions.

The 75 Conundrum
Once you hit 75 you have the ability to max your professions, which leaves you two options.  Learn Illustrious Grand Master Mining/Herbalism OR use the gold your toon earned to max out serious gold making professions (with no farming) like Alchemy or JC.  My personal goal is to have a character that, through leveling, pays to max out their really good gold making professions.  The one argument I can think of for holding out to 85 to drop herbalism/mining is that you can continue to get XP using your professions if you stick to mining/herbalism.

If you choose to continue leveling past 75 using Herbalism/Mining you can start in Mount Hyjal.  You're going to have to grind a bit here, but there are a lot of nodes that don't have nearby NPC's.  Once you hit 500 Herbalism and 475 Mining, go to The Violet Citadel in Dalaran and take the portal to The Caverns of Time.  Once there, fly south one zone and start farming in Uldum.  A little dangerous in the 70's, but there are plenty of nodes not near NPC's and these nodes will reward TONS of XP.

Have fun leveling your toons!

PvP Time!!

A new PvP season is upon us Tuesday, and if you thought that the launch of 4.3 was great for sales, Tuesday should prove to be just as good, if not better!  Not only is it the start of the new season with all new PvP gear, but it is also the first reset of the LFR loot drops and normal/heroic reset of raids, and the first time characters can buy a non-relic gemmable piece of PvE gear with Valor!

Items to Craft for the PvP Season

  • More Inferno Rubies!  - What can I say about this that hasn't been said already?
  • Resilience Cuts - Dust off those resilience gem cuts that you havent used all week, the time is nigh! I'm making sure to stock 80 of each resilience cut I have ahead of time, and anticipating more to come!
  • Leg Enchants - Leg enchants are great for PvE gear but if you're a tailor don't forget to craft the Int/Stam leg enchants!  All leg enchants will sell really well for PvP minus the new tanking one!
  • Belt Buckles - If you, like me, sold out of belt buckles during the first week of 4.3, craft more.  Even with increased ore/bar prices, these will sell like hotcakes.
  • Vicious Craftable PvP Gear - Tailoring, LW, BS, JC, and Inscription all have the new Vicious patterns available to them, so get crafting!  These are sure to sell once people get their undergeared alts in the swing of things.
  • Food Buffs - Since people can now hit their Conquest cap from doing Random BGs food buffs will be in demand for both PvE and PvP, so get those fortune cookies crankin!
  • PvP Enchants - PvPers won't be getting weapons the first week, so don't expect an increase in weapon enchants.  Instead look to Chest, Back, Bracer, etc.  BiS enchants, or cheaper almost BiS enchants (such as +15 stats to chest instead of +20).  ALSO craft  +40 Resilience to chest, it may not be BiS for anyone, but it will sell!
Good Luck making even more gold in 4.3 when the PvP season goes live!!

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

Are you Using Your Extra Justice Points Wisely?

If you're like me, you have a PvE toon that was (and still is) really excited for the new 5-mans and the Raid Finder that came out in 4.3.  Also, since you ran those dungeons a lot, and there is not much new for Justice Points, you may be thinking that you should be investing in Justice Bracers or Boots, but with such an influx of Justice Points you may be getting less bang for your buck!  Some suggestions that work great are as follows, and may also help diversify your "Justice Portfolio" for faster turnovers:

Bracers > Boots
This one should be obvious.  1650 points for a 359 vs 1250 points for a 378, the 378 should always win!  If your server is like mine though, you may need another alternative, as Bracers are going for dirt cheap because everyone can get them now, for 16-18 heroic boss kills.

WotLK Epic Gems
One of my favorite "sleeper items"  is Wrath epic gems.  You can only purchase them in Dalaran for 220 Justice Points each.  The vendors are found here for Allies, here for Horde, or can be bought from this guy.  These gems are a favorite of 70 twinks, and you should never underestimate the market for Wrath Epic Gems.  My favorite ones to flip are Majestic Zircon, cutting it as it's Solid cut, and King's Amber cutting it into it's Mystic cut.  Of course 3rd - 5th in my lineup are all Cardinal Ruby cuts, namely the StrengthIntellect, and Agility cuts.

If your Jewelcrafter wasn't around in Wrath, you probably have none of these recipes.  They each cost 4 Dalaran Jewelcrafter's Tokens  which are rewards from the Dalaran JC Dailies given by Timothy Jones.  If you don't have a JC at all, you should make getting a JC your priority!  You can sell these uncut but the effort of cutting them is well worth your time

Justice Alternatives
There are a few justice alternatives, which include buying BoAs for your alts, or converting them to Honor Points to get your character geared for PvP.   The vendors that convert Justice to Honor are here for Alliance and here for Horde.  If you have a healthy ratio of Wrath Gems and 378 Bracer sales (barking in trade etc) you are guaranteed to make a decent amount of gold.  For my server, the Wrath gems provide the best Gold per Justice Point ratio, so I don't even bother with the Bracers, but ALWAYS check your own server before diving into a new gold strategy.

Cheers,

Phat Lewts

4.3 Shenanigans

So 4.3 was released 34 hours ago and in that time I've made just over 95k gold according to my addons.  About 3k gold/ hour is not too bad!  Going to post some of my winners and losers of the first 2 days of 4.3:

Winners

  • Inferno Ruby Cuts - Of course.  Selling nonstop and still going.
  • Ember and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond - Other cuts too, but these two in particular are constantly flying off the shelf.  Had 45 on my posting alt and had to craft more this morning because of the demand!  Gotta love those casters!
  • Ebonsteel Belt Buckle - May seem like an obvious choice, but the price really skyrocketed on these and I made and sold a lot more than I expected to on the first few days, mostly based on the wide array of belts released this patch.
  • Enchants - Unfortunately I wasn't willing to go the extra mile and make scrolls from my enchanting mats from my Elementium Shuffle, but I did make a pretty good profit on the mats, meaning the scrolls must be going for all the more.
Losers
  • Vicious Armor Sets - I crafted the cloth and plate sets of these figuring I would have little or no competition on the AH, and I didn't, but they also didn't sell.  PvP gear with honor for the week off between seasons must have been too alluring for alts.
  • Glyphs - I have a scribe, but I'm not an inscription man.  I don't post glyphs at all but when I was looking for a Glyph of Fireball for my newly minted fire mage, and saw none on AH I was disappointed to see there were none in AH and couldn't even get a scribe to craft one for 150g, my mats.  It's a recipe learned through Northrend Research, and one that should have been posted since Fire Mages were super buffed this patch.  Poor showing by my servers scribes!

Alchemy Gold Making Tip

Hey guys!  I know a lot of Alchemists out there do their daily transmute cooldown, and most likely make Truegold every time.  I'm here to tell you that contrary to popular belief, it's not necessarily the most profitable transmute you can make, especially if you're not a transmute master.

Living Elements is a highly misunderstood transmute.  After me suggesting it, you may be thinking, why gamble at getting a worthless transmute of Volatile Earth when I can just make the guaranteed profit of Truegold?  The answer is simple.  Transmute: Living Elements will actually give you a specified Volatile, if you do it in the right Cataclysm zone.  A Blizzard post about this can be found here.

To sum it up, I've included the following table:
Transmute: Living Elements Results
VolatileCorresponding Cataclysm Zone
Earth
Deepholm
Fire
Mount Hyjal
Water
Vashj'ir
Air
Uldum

What should catch your eye is that you can transmute 15 Volatile Life to 14-16 (15 on average) Volatile Air by doing this transmute in Uldum.  For my server I buy Life at around 5 gold, and Air goes for 20 gold.  On average I'll make 15 gold each and 15 at a time for a 225 gold profit.  Run the numbers on your server and see which transmute is more profitable for you!  I've found if you're a potions/elixir master this is usually the best way to go, but as a transmute master, the proc is still random (for example doing it in Uldum will get you 14-16 volatile air and maybe 2-3 of a random Volatile from the table, Air included)  whereas the Truegold proc is guaranteed to proc more Truegold.

Note for Your Under 83 Alchemist
If your alchemist is under level 83 and/or doesn't have the portal to Uldum yet, there is an easy path to Uldum from Dalaran, given you have the proper flying training.  Just get a port to Dalaran, and head over to The Violet Citadel.  Up the stairs in The Violet Citadel is a portal to The Caverns of Time.  Take this and you will be one zone north of Uldum.  Fly south to Uldum, and enjoy your extra profits!

Wrath Gems Still Profitable?

My DK, who happens to be my JC wracked up all of the most useful gem cuts during Wrath.  Like many people, since Cataclysm hit I've been solely focusing on the market of Cata gems, and my Wrath recipes have been sitting idly.  I recently came across a stack of raw Majestic Zircon for 80g a pop.  I cut these into Solid Majestic Zircon (Stamina) and was able to sell every last one for 215g each.  After AH fees, thats about an 125 gold Profit per gem!!

My tip of the day is use Auctionator to set up a list of Wrath raw gems, and keep an eye out for when they're cheap.  Whether they're rare or epic, usually there's a nice enough profit margin to justify the time put in.  Another alternative is watching for the mats for Icy Prism, which no longer has a cooldown, to get your Wrath gems.  If you don't pay too much for the Frozen orb (the most I'll pay is 20 g) the green gems that go along with it in this recipe are usually 1-2 g on my server, which results in some nice profits on the gems made, even if they don't proc an epic!

Personally I would only get 5 cuts (in my experience Wrath green gems don't sell well, I just sell them raw for leveling JC's).  For Red i would go with Brilliant for all the leveling casters, Purple I'd go with a Purified cut for the healers, Yellow I would go with a Quick cut, but this one could go a few ways, do some research on your server particularly, for Orange I would suggest a Reckless cut, and of course for Blue go with Solid, leveling tanks love stamina.

The only problem is if your JC doesn't have a cut, you will have to go to Dalaran to do some Dalaran JC dailies, but I'd even suggest making your JC's hearth there, because since 4.1 the portals to Orgrimmar and Stormwind are back in Dalaran.  The turnover rate isn't as high, but the rares and epics both sell at a pretty good profit margin for that extra gold making edge in what may be a niche market on your server!

Gold Making Add-ons

For my first official post, I decided to do a piece on the add-ons I use to make gold, because add-ons are in my opinion essential for streamlining the process. I realized that some of the add-ons need way more explaining than others, so the ones that I wrote individual articles on are linked to the name of the add-on, if you're interested, click it for more info, including setup and use.

Posting Add-ons
I use two posting add-ons:

1)  Auctionator - Simple interface add-on, good for batch posting auctions, and allows you to make lists of commonly searched for items. Also records the last scanned price for all items in the AH as a tool tip for when you're away from AH. Click the link for a more detailed explanation.

2) TradeSkillMaster (TSM) - This add-on is GREAT for posting auctions quickly and efficiently, at least twice as fast as Auctionator, but you need to be willing to take the time to set it up, as it is a very bulky add-on. By far my favorite add-on to date. I personally use both of these posting add-ons, for reasons explained in the guide, and it is useful to note you will need to DL "plug-in add-ons" for this one, check the post for more detail

Gathering
1) Gathermate2 - This add-on is perfect for your gathering alts.  You need to download a second package called Gathermate2_data.

Other

1) Postal - This is an add-on that will get all of your mail in your mailbox for you, by clicking a button. I've tried at least 5 of these, and Postal is by far my favorite. Besides getting your mail it remembers the names of your alts and will keep a name in the box, which is convenient for mailing mats/gold between alts.

2) Accountant - This add-on keeps track of you gold inflow and outflow, and is great so you can see the big picture of your selling. Keeps track per character or overall, and has time frames of 1 session, 1 day, 1 week, or since you DLed the add-on. More in the guide.

3) Scrap - This add-on sells your junk (greys and things you can specifically specify). When you first log in after Downloading it, it will start a tutorial which will explain its functions completely.

Auctionator

I use 2 add-ons for posting auctions, Auctionator and Trade Skill Master. If you're all for batch posting and canceling auctions with ease, without bulky setup, Auctionator is for you. If you are willing to take some time to set up Trade Skill Master so you can click one button (Multiple Times) and create all the auctions that you post often, I have a guide for setting it up here. I personally still use Auctionator to sell odd things like world drops and enchanting mats (since I don't want to dump my entire stockpile unless I have a large excess). Auctionator adds 3 tabs to the bottom of your auction house interface, I will go over the uses and functions of each one

The Buy Tab
The Buy tab is very useful in many ways. If this is your first time using this add-on you will want to click the "Full Scan..." button. This will scan all items on the AH at the current time and record the prices as tool tips when you're not at the AH. For example if you loot Volatile

Air and you think I wonder how much this is going for at the AH, you can mouse over it and it will tell you the last checked price per item. It is best to run a scan every 3-5 days, or whenever you're getting up from your computer while your character is at the AH.

General Buying
The main functionality of the Buy Tab is to search for items, and make lists of items you commonly search for. To search for items, type the name in the box and hit enter. The add

-on will search through all the listings of the item and organize them by price per. Watch out here because people may be selling something you want 1 or 2 of in stacks of 13 for example, just look under the current auctions column for the stack size. If the seller has more than one stack when you hit the buy button it will allow you to keep hitting the buy button until you buy all their stacks at that price or run out of money. This is one of the HUGE advantages over not using an add-on at all, or even using Auctioneer.

Shopping Lists
If you want to make a list of things you commonly buy, suppose Cataclysm herbs for example, hit the "New Shopping List" button and type in a name. For me it will be "Cataclysm Herbs". Now choose your new list from the drop down menu on the left, if it isn't already.

Next search for an items (such as Whiptail), and once it's done scanning, hit the "Add Item To List" button, and boom, it's now on your shopping list.

Continue to do this until you have everything you want on a list. This will allow you to search for all items, just hit the "Search for all Items" button, and you will have a list of each item with the lowest price for each item next to it.

To buy a specific item, click on it and you will be brought to the normal interface for that item. From there you can hit the back button and return to your search results.

The Sell Tab
The sell tab in auctionator is really unique in that you drag an item from your bag into the box on screen (it's pretty self explanatory) and the list of all auctions currently for that item come up, and you have the option to undercut the lowest. Batch posts your items with ease.

The More... Tab
The basic functionality of this tab is to scan your auctions, and cancel any auctions where you're undercut. The main drawback from this function is you may be canceling auctions that are only undercut by one other auction, by 1 copper, where you'd probably sell your goods in the long run anyway.

In all, Auctionator is a great posting add-on, but I'd like to note that while writing this piece I did see some posts on curse about people having issues with it, but I personally have not.

TradeSkillMaster - Posting & Canceling

At first glance, TradeSkillMaster (TSM) is bulky and has what seems like an overwhelming amount of functions. In this post I will focus only on the posting and canceling functions of this add-on, which allow you to batch post a lot of items you commonly post, just by clicking one button. This add-on is really useful if you are posting something like glyphs or gems, and there is a high turnover rate. It allows you to specify how many you want to post at a time and stack size, which I will go over in the post.

Before you start, you can't just download TradeSkillMaster, it's a bare bones add-on. TSM has plug-in add-ons that you will also have to DL for certain functions. I use TradeSkillMaster_Auctioning, TradeSkillMaster_Crafting, TradeSkillMaster_Shopping, and TradeSkillMaster_AuctionDB, all of them are available on the Curse Client. For this specific tutorial we are only concerned with the _Auctioning package, but the others are useful, and tutorials can be found fairly easy online, and I will make a post about them some time in the near future.

Creating Lists & Posting
TSM allows you to create multiple lists with common rules (such as undercut price, number you want posted, and stack size). In this example I will be setting up a list for Glyphs. Since you can create multiple lists, make sure that you create lists with things in common.
    1) Type /tsm to open the TSM interface. Click the “Auctioning Groups/Auctions” button and then click the “Categories/Groups” on the left, then the tab called “Create Category/Group” to create a new list. Type the list name in the box, my example will be called Glyphs.

    2) Now that you created your list, click the list you just made, and it will open to the “Add/Remove Items” tab. You can type a word in the middle text box to select all items with a similar word in it (like “glyph of”), or select all the items one by one. Then Hit “Add››”.

    3) Repeat step 2 until you have a list that you are willing to post with the same rules. (Note: Make sure TSM adds all the items you wanted, verify the list before continuing)

    4) Now click on the “Group Overrides” tab, and you will be able to set up rules for your list. To change an aspect you have to right click the option to unlock it, and then change the numbers. For some things you will want the starting price minimum to be relatively high, and for others you will maybe only want it to be 5g. Go through all the options, and get a feel for what they do, and customize your group (These options only apply to this specific group!).
    5) Repeat stems 1-4 (creating multiple groups) until you have all the items you batch post daily, with useful rules.
    6) Now it's time to auction! Head to the AH (If you weren't there already) and click the "TSM››" button to open the TSM interface. Click the top tab, “Auctioning - Post” and TSM will start scanning all the items on your lists that are in your bags. This is the true beauty of the add-on. Just click the big “Post Auction” button until all your auctions are done posting and walk away :-). After all your lists have been set up, all you have to do is this step to post these items in the future.

Canceling Auctions
TSM allows you to batch cancel all your auctions that you have via the lists you made in the above process. Doing this will create a lot of mail, and I suggest the Postal add-on to deal with this. To Cancel all of your undercut auctions, click the tab under the posting tab, “Auctioning – Cancel. It will automatically start the canceling scan. Whenever TSM comes across one of your auctions that is undercut, the same big button from posting will come up, instead saying Cancel Auction. Click it until all your undercut auctions are cancelled, head to the nearest mailbox and repost :-). Simple as that.

The initial steps setting up this add-on seem like a hassle, but the payoff is well worth it, and it is a huge timesaver in the long run.

    Accountant

Some people want to see what they sold and what they made money from, I personally just want to see the net results, so this add-on is perfect for me.

There are some caveats to this add-on though and I will show you some of them right now.

So this is the basic layout of the add-on. On the bottom are tabs so you can go through the different tabs on the bottom of the page allowing you to look at data for the week, day, session or total overall. I find the day and week functions to be particularly useful because it lets you cleanly keep track of your revenue and expenses. The week function resets every Tuesday, which I think is great to coordinate with server resets. It also lets you keep track of spending per character, because sometimes you want to just look at your bank alt and not your wasteful main :-P.

Since this is just a basic spreadsheet add-on that keeps track of all the money that goes in and out, there are some flaws to note.

If you look at this row, you'll see that I had about 80k g worth of Mail “Expenses”. This clearly will never be the case unless you buy things COD. This is money sent between alts for the most part, and since (presumably) all the mail was recorded, it was also shown as revenue. If you want to find how much you made for the week from selling things at the auction house subtract Mail Expenses from Mail Revenue. In this example it's 117,614 - 80,000 = 37,614, so I made 37,614 in the mail from AH.

Also from this screenshot you may notice that there is Auction House Revenue. Not really sure what they mean by that, because most of the AH income is accounted for in mail. Like I said not the most accurate or detailed addon, but it gets the job done.

    Don't Call it a Comeback

Okay. You can probably call it a comeback in this case. I've been gone a long time. So if you follow my Twitter you'll know I recent...
