Purchasing WoW Game Time with Gold. Legitimately.

Don't get too excited yet, because often times these sorts of ideas don't make it into the game, but recently a blue post by Bashiok wrote of a new mechanism Blizzard is considering for purchasing game time in game. From this blue post:

New Ways to Play
We’re exploring the possibility of giving players a way to buy tradable game-time tokens for the purpose of exchanging them in-game with other players for gold. Our current thought on this is that it would give players a way to use their surplus gold to cover some of their subscription cost, while giving players who might have less play time an option for acquiring gold from other players through a legit and secure system. A few other online games offer a similar option, and players have suggested that they’d be interested in seeing something along those lines in WoW. We agree it could be a good fit for the game, and we look forward to any feedback you have as we continue to look into this feature.

To me this would be a great option for those of us with surplus virtual currency. I think it would be very interesting to see this flesh out if it were to come to fruition. It would definitely put a cap on illegitmate means of buying and selling gold, and put a pretty solid ratio on g/$ exchange rate, which to me would be fun to watch evolve over time, and I hope it's something that some of our already favorite AH tracking addons/websites would keep an eye on.

On the other hand, I'm not convinced that Blizzard will ever end up taking this avenue at all, as they've tried other avenues in converting gold to $ such as the guardian cub in WoW and RMAH in Diablo, and have since pulled both programs. That's not to say that there's absolutely no way this would happen, but I would hope they're approaching things like this with a little more care now, and if they do introduce it that it's well thought out. One can dream!

  1. I feel like this is the kind of thing that players tend to get angry over in hundred-page-long forum threads. If that happens I reckon they'll pull the feature.

  2. The problem with the guardian cub was that it was open to supply/demand issues and didn't let me turn my gold into cash - so was only of value to me once as a pet collector.

Game time, set at a fixed amount that keeps buyer and seller happy, while undermining the illegal gold sellers would have a place.

    1. I would love it, I guess my main point was I don't put too much stock in Blizzard saying that, especially within the same post they mentioned throwing a bunch of new testable features on the PTR and this wasn't one of them.

    2. if it is a Plex type arrangement, is it not managed outside of the game?

Phat's Ultimate WoW Gold Making Macro Guide

This guide is going to be extensive so buckle up. Macros are a great way to make your gold making more efficient, and this is going to be a guide to both create your own basic macros, followed by a compendium of macros that I use myself for gold making.

Creating a Basic Button Clicking Macro
Playing WoW, particularly using TSM, one clicks a lot of buttons to be as productive as we are. I'm not going to cover every button, but I'm going to go over how to find and macro any clickable button. The first thing we're going to utilize is WoW's built in Frame Stack. This tells us all the frames our cursor is currently hovered over, and we can find Button names from the list to make macros for them. Here's an example.

Type /fstack and you will get a window that looks like this:

Right now I'm hovered over the TSMAuctioningPostButton, which I've just learned the name of! If I wanted to create a macro to click this button, I would just have to add a /click before the b…

TradeSkillMaster Sniper Tutorial

If you haven't already, there are only 2 Days Leftto participate in my Yearly Review Survey to provide feedback that will go towards improving the blog in 2014!

Yesterday, the TSM team released a slew of updates for TradeSkillMaster, and among them was a new feature for the TradeSkillMaster_Shopping Module called Sniper. What the addon does is searches for recently posted items that meet a set of rules that you set up, and allow you to snag them before anyone else does. Before I release my video publicly, I'm posting the link on my blog for my readers as a sort of early release! Enjoy!
